Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

All children are special, but sometimes difficulties may prevent a child from gaining the full advantage from the educational opportunities offered within their class. In our school we have procedures for identifying and assessing children’s special educational needs (or additional needs). These learning difficulties can be supported with extra help from the class teacher and the classroom assistant and are overseen by the Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO).

Once identified, children are closely monitored and will have targets which are achievable and measurable. This is renewed each term by staff, parents and pupils. These children fall within the category of SEN Support. Where necessary, advice is sought from a member of the borough’s Special Educational Advisory Team.

For some children, extra support is needed and, in agreement with parents/carers, the school may request an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).

For more details on these procedures please see the SEND Policy on our Policies page and the SEN Information report below.
