Experimenting

An experimenter dissects. They make predictions and tests those predictions. They fail, try again, and record their findings. They also take those findings and come up with new ways to use them. With the Experimenting Portfolio you get to do all these things. Unlike the Exploring Portfolio, you are asked to take apart different components of music and make something completely new out of them. Imagine putting Reggae into a centrifuge, isolating the different components, and mixing them together with the separate components of Baroque-style counterpoint. Or taking the melodies of Irish jig music and incorporating them into rock guitar solo. With this portfolio, you can play with musical chemistry.

Three Creation Experiments

Create three music experiments which show how you used musical components to create new and uniquely inspired music ideas.

Three Performance Experiments

Dissect a performance and isolate the different musical components that makes it sound the way it sounds. Plan three experiments that you can apply to your instrument and perform them in new and exciting ways.
