With throwing clay, I found centering to be highly tiring and challenging as someone who skips arm day at the gym. It uses lots of upper-body strength and it can get very frustrating if you aren't able to center within 2 minutes. Sometimes I could center really fast and other times, it took a couple of tries until I got my clay to be centerd. I overcame this by practicing throwing and really using my body to get my body weight to measure the clay while on the wheel and keeping my pinkies in to have my clay center quickly. What I found successful with throwing was my creations and the cylinders I attempted to create. I was able to create very tall and thin cylinders as a beginner thrower which I found awesome and I was able to create a successful bowl. From trying to throw process, I learned lots of amazing facts from this experience. Firstly, I learned how to use clay on the wheel and how difficult it is, compared to how easy its shown online or on social media. I find it highly satisfying once my final product is completed as I put so much hard work and upper-body strength into completing it. Lastly, I learned how to center and even if it takes me a couple of tries, I was happy I didn't give up and kept on going, despite on not being able to center in the beginning of trying to throw. Overall, I can see myself trying to throw again as I find it fun and exhilarating, but I want to make new creations and improve my centering method on the wheel!
My bowl & Enclosed piece!
My Cylinder piece.
The piece I made is a cup that is slightly tiled and is suppose to look like its melting into its base as well. How I made is is by first making my cup on the wheel. This process was interesting as at first I made a centered, perfect cup design. However, as I did more edits on it on the wheel, I accdcidently spun too fast and tilted my piece. I decided to keep my piece titled and then fixed it up. Lastly, I took some clay and rolled it out flat, cut out a kinda-perfect circle, and meshed both pieces together to create this titled cup into the base design. This piece was successful in my opinion as at first my piece got messed up, but I decided to make a mess up into a creation and made it into a titled masterpiece. I really love how the execution of my piece seems perfect and seemless, but in reality it is a mistake that turned into a piece. If I had to do this piece again, I would have added more glaze into the crack that was created after it was fired so its appearance would have been more hindered. My art I feel has the right feeling/mood that it should have as in I believe my piece gives people a feel of comfort and security. As the cup top is covered and deep within, its composure can give people a sense of calmness. Furthermore, I like how its top is thick and then slowly goes thin as its titled design, depicting a sense of unity and strengthens. Overall, I feel my piece is amazing and I love how I turned a mistake into a sucess. I feel proud of this piece as its color is a nice beige color, its composure is very lovely, and it has repetition ocuring on the outsideness of the cup. I like how titled the piece is while still being amazing and looking neat and composed. Furthmore, I appreciate how I made it on the wheel, but also used hand methods to fix and clean up my piece further. Also, I like how my piece really settles into the peaceful background of the forest and lake for the nature and viewer to see. Moreso, I like how my piece looks like its melting into nature too by it being naturally titled.
The method I used was the transfer method. I first made my design on paper and then traced it with a marker. Then, I took my paper and pressed it against my clay plate, rubbing the paper to make the print appear to trace. I picked this method as it was very easy for me, convenient, and made my design appear better, giving it the ability to have certain details to show as I transferred it. This made it more easy for me to trace my design and add the minor details on my plate. I made a plate with a variety of colors and in-graved it with underglaze to represent Sikhism culture. The process how I made it is by the transfer method and as I traced my design on the plate, I cleaned up my design and then did a under-glaze first. After, I did a regular glaze for my background, the black color, to make my piece shiny. Furthermore, I used ayrllic paint to fix any minor details or mess ups. I set up my design on paper first by using a pencil and took reference photos of Sikhism culture for it. I believe my pieces sketch transfer was highly successful as it turned out exactly how I wanted it to and every detail I wanted represented is displayed vividly. I also love the colors and how the under-glaze helped represent my piece more to the viewer. If I had to do this again, I would change my background color to a dark blue to give more contrast to my piece, otherwise, I like the black and how it makes my pieces main image highly pop out and gives a very eerie affect. I think my piece gives a rich and powerful mood/feeling, moreso then I anticipated when creating the piece. I hope that someone part of Sikhism culture can see this piece and feel happy/inspired, and even those not part of Sikhism can learn or feel a sense of calmness as well as god watches over them happily. Overall, I feel my piece is amazing and has a great contrast in its color scheme from dark black to bright red and orange colors from the color wheel. I would give my piece a 9 out of 10 rating. I feel highly proud of my piece and the work I produced as it turned out better then I hoped, giving a happy feeling to those who view it and especially to those part of Sikhism culture. I hope in the future I can make more pieces for my Sikhism culture and seek to improve my pieces designs, making them more detailed and meaningful for the viewer. Plus, I would like to add more contrast and repetition in my pieces, even those there is repetition in the linework in the beard on the plate.
The high-heeled shoe design you have created features bold, geometric shapes in contrasting colors, resulting in an abstract and futuristic look. The shoe's silhouette is sleek and elegant, with sharp angles and clean lines. The geometric shapes are prominently displayed on the shoe's upper, utilizing various sizes and arrangements to create a visually striking composition. The contrasting colors add depth and visual interest, emphasizing the abstract nature of the design. To set up the design, you may have started with sketching initial concepts on paper or digitally. Exploring different geometric shapes and color combinations would have been an important part of the design process. Once you settled on a design direction, you might have created more detailed sketches or even digital renderings to refine the concept. You could have experimented with different materials, textures, and finishes to bring your design to life. The use of bold, geometric shapes in contrasting colors is successful in creating a visually captivating and modern design. The abstract and futuristic aesthetic is effectively conveyed through the clean lines and sharp angles. The choice of high-heeled footwear adds a touch of sophistication to the design. The overall composition appears well-balanced and visually dynamic. If you were to do it again, you might consider exploring different variations of geometric shapes or experimenting with different color palettes to further expand the design possibilities. Additionally, you could consider how the design would translate into a functional shoe, ensuring that comfort and wearability are not compromised. The abstract and futuristic design of the high-heeled shoe could be interpreted in various ways. It may evoke a sense of modernity, innovation, and progress. The bold geometric shapes and contrasting colors could represent the dynamic and ever-evolving nature of our technological world. The design might aim to make a fashion statement, expressing individuality and a desire to push boundaries. Ultimately, the meaning and mood of the art would depend on the viewer's personal interpretation and perception.
I made many mugs in sculpture class. I made two mugs, one of an umbrella man inspired from Peter Max and second a regular purple mug with contrasting colors. The process I started with was making a round design, cylinder like and then I added the mug holder using slip and score method. I set up my design with sketching it out and looking at reference photos. I believe my mug is successful in the colors I used, giving it lots of contrast from dark purple mug holder to the light purple on the outside. Furthermore, I believe my colorful mugs' colors makes it in-depth and the thickness of the paint gives it a more 3-d overview. If I did these pieces again, I would have made the inside of my purple mug black instead of white and I would have made my background a purple color instead of white and blue ombre to make it more centered and colorful. The mood I wanted my pieces to have was homeful and happiness and I believe my pieces give this mood, especially through my colorful petermax mug that gives a celebration and aww sense of feeling. I think my purple mug kinda gives a sad feeling instead, which is not what I wanted but I do not hate it. Overall, I feel my pieces are good and turned out well, even though they are not food-safe haha. I like how contrasted my pieces are, from the dark to warm tones usage and using aryllic and glaze mediums on my clay mugs. I feel very proud of these pieces and its execution, I love the mugs different colors and how they both contrast each other. I believe I can make better mugs in the future and make them more detailed.
I went to NC Museum of Art over the weekend and go to check out lots of amazing art work. I loved the different types of mediums I got to see and got to research/view the history of the creations. I loved the greek/roman section of the museum to the Wakanda forever section with clothing art work from the movie and had black panter itself at the museum.
The art pieces I made consist of two bowls: one in blue and gold, and the other in light and dark green. Blue and Gold Bowl: The bowl is primarily blue in color with intricate gold patterns or accents. The blue color may vary in shade, ranging from a deep navy blue to a vibrant turquoise. The gold elements can take the form of motifs, geometric patterns, or even gilded detailing. The bowl's shape and size can be traditional or contemporary, depending on the artistic vision. Light and Dark Green Bowl: This bowl features a color palette that transitions from light green to dark green. The transition can be gradual, showcasing different shades of green, or it can be a distinct separation between the light and dark green sections. The bowl's form could be organic or geometric, complementing the color scheme. To create these bowls, an artist might have used a pottery wheel or hand-building techniques such as molding or slab construction. The clay would be shaped and formed into the desired bowl shape, taking into consideration the size and depth. Once the basic structure is complete, the artist would apply glazes or paints in the chosen color scheme—blue and gold for one bowl, and light and dark green for the other. The application of gold accents or the blending of green shades would require careful brushwork or layering techniques. The blue and gold bowl is successful in its use of complementary colors. Blue represents calmness, stability, and tranquility, while gold symbolizes opulence, richness, and sophistication. The combination of these colors can create a sense of luxury and elegance, making the bowl visually appealing. The light and dark green bowl effectively employs a monochromatic color scheme. Light green is often associated with freshness, growth, and vitality, while dark green represents stability, balance, and depth. The transition from light to dark green adds depth and dimension to the piece. The choice of green colors can evoke a natural and serene atmosphere. If creating these bowls again, one possible change could be to experiment with different finishes or textures. Adding a glossy or matte glaze to the surface could enhance the visual appeal and tactile experience of the bowls. Additionally, exploring different shapes or incorporating unique patterns or textures could further elevate the designs. The interpretation of the meaning and mood of these art pieces can vary based on personal perception. The blue and gold bowl may evoke feelings of serenity, luxury, and sophistication, reminiscent of opulent settings or peaceful environments. The light and dark green bowl could be associated with nature, growth, and harmony, creating a sense of calmness and balance. Ultimately, the interpretation of the art's meaning depends on the viewer's own experiences and emotions. Different individuals may resonate with the colors and symbolism in unique ways, resulting in a range of interpretations and emotional responses.
