Sustained Investigation #3

The main idea that guided this artwork is my sustained investigation question for this semester, this being the third piece officially revolved around it. My sustained investigation question was "How can you capture the universe through art?". The very first thing that influenced this artwork is the realization that my previous two sustained investigations were pieces of 2D art and I did;t even register that. Needing to make an actuall piece of 3D art this threw some of my origal intended planes out the window. I was inspired in class by another student to use wire for this piece. On a wimb I descided to make a piece of jewlery out of it. To make it space-related I was inspired by two things. First, space forms wich is why one of the connecting piece options is a cresent moon. Second: sci-fi clothing and jewelry, often times the upper classes in fictional space settings like Dune and Star Wars have sleak and simple, yet destinket-looking jewelry. 

I grabbed some wire and started experimenting. I settled on twisting together two pieces of separate wire I measured out into one to create a stronger, thicker, and overall  more interesting-looking large strand. That prosses really hurt my figure, particularly my thumbs which were constantly being smushed into a thing yet hard objects. Thats when I remembered  pliers existed wich made the whole process a lot easier and overall far less painful. Using the piliers I constantly  measured the long wisted strand against myselt, slowly shaping it into the necklace I wanted. Finally I made two different removable attachments to bring the whole thing together. 

There was not really an experimentation prosses for this piece because I started working untilI was done. The only thing you might be able to count is the pieces of scrape metal that bent into the wrong places and I had to start over with parts of the atachment pieces. Other then that the process was more thinking about the logistics of the piece, needing to find a way to take the necklace on and off, expeshaly while kaing it, while wanting it to wrape fully around my neck. Thats where the interchangeable pieces come in, being practical to tie the pice together and giving different options for style!
