The main idea that guided my word design logo is wanting to create the noun out of the word I randomly selected. I randomly selected the noun "home" which I liked because it was a simple word that could be made into a simple design. I like the design I settled on because it creates the thing it is out of the word, simular to some of the simplistic designs of big brands. I think the design works well because it gets everything across to the viewer, they read the word home and see that it looks like a home. I didn't have many ideas going into the FHS logo project, I just wanted something that looked cool. I do like the design I settled on because it literally pops and utilizes some elements of perspective and optical allusions to create the effect. In the end, I think the design is simple enough for a logo but still complex enough to be interesting. After I was done drawing the logos on paper I transferred both into photoshop in order to clean both of them up and make them look more legit.

For both of the traditional drawings, I did a few sketches in pencil before sketching out an intended finished piece on a larger scale. I did this all in pages in my sketchbook since these pieces can be a bit smaller than normal work. For the "Word Logo" I used a sharpie pen and the side of a book to create a straight outline for the logo. Then I used a thin black marker to fill in the shapes and letters entirely. For the FHS logo, I just used sharpie pen to trace the sketch. I imported both images into photoshop to clean them up but went about it a bit differently for both. For the home logo, I turned up contrast all the way and then erased and added to the edges of all the shapes and lines to make them straight and clean. For the FHS logo, I imported the original and then created a layer on top. I turned the stabilization on the brush all the way up to create smooth curved lines and then traced the sketch.

For the home logo, I first filled up my sketchbook with a few ideas on how to turn the word "home" into a house. I knew from early on I could make the "O" into a door but was frustrated when I could not figure out where to put a window or other house-like features. Eventually, when I was creating the finished piece with the design I chose I accidentally drew the line at the end of the "E" all the way down. Because it was in permanent sharpie I decided to just go with it and turned both spaces in the "E" into windows. When I finished the design I thought it still felt incomplete so I added some extra lines to add interest. I overdid it a little in the original design so I cut back on some when creating the home logo digitally. I did two sketches for the FHS logo and ended up using the first one anyways. I spent a lot of time getting the perspective right and I think it strikes a good compromise between complex and simple.
