2D design

2D design semester 1 reflection

Through this class and the work I've done in my own time, I have re-learned my love of art that I lost over the last semester of sophomore year. By getting into art again I quickly learned a lot of technical skills and learned to work with a variety of different mediums. With the WhatchamaDRAW It, Beautiful Oops, and Circle project assignment I learned how to effectively use the alcohol makers I'v had lying around as well as increasing my understanding of using color in a drawing. Through the Logo design and Digital Painting, I was exposed to Illustrator and Photoshop for the first time, they were difficult programs to understand but now I can navigate some aspects of both. I learned to use a variety of materials with a second Sustained Investigation including wire, clay, and some 3D design skills. I used guache for the first time because of the duck stamp project. But the most important thing that I learned from this class was re-learning my love for and ability in the digital program Procreate. Procreate was a program that I, with no exaggeration, used on a daily basis for some time during the covid lockdown. Because I was given the option to create 2D designs digitally like Stars and Stripes, Abstraction, Donate Life, and two of the sustained investigations I was able to re-learn some old skills as well as bring new ones with me. I learned that 2D design, and art in general, is something that I still enjoy.

I feel as though the thing that I succeeded with the most this year was my artwork. Art is something that I've very particular about and will go back time and time again until I find it good, even then I might still change things. Expeshaly for larger projects like the Extended Blind Conture, Circle Project, and sustained investigations, I would take a lot of time out of multiple days to work on them. The best part of it was that I enjoyed doing this because art is something  I'm very passionate about. That was my treating success, putting time and effort into my art. My greatest struggle this year with 2D design was the artist statement, it seems as though all my motivation for art when out the window the moment I lay down the pencil. Truthfully I struggled not because they were hard to do but because I was unmotivated and ended up procrastinating.

I do plan on continuing art in the future. Unfortunately, I'm not taking 3D design in my second semester Junior year because  I have to balance the workload  of taking an online college course. However, I do plan to take more art classes either through online classes or in my senior year. What I'm most confident in is that I want to submit a full art portfolio to Scholastics next year in
