Below are some games and activities your child will be doing while they are in PE class.
Reindeer Games/Summit Challenges:
This is a co-ed unit we do at the end of each semester. Students are randomly put into teams where they compete against other teams in various events. This unit is 1+ week long and ends with an awards ceremony.
Weight Room:
Summit Trail has one of the best middle school weights rooms in the district. For this unit, we focus on muscular strength and endurance while doing very basic beginner lifts and movements.
Fitness Testing:
Each semester, students will participate in fitness testing. This data helps build our daily PE lessons and objectives to ensure our students gain knowledge and learn about goal setting while working to improve the 5 main fitness components: aerobic endurance, muscular endurance, muscular strength, body composition, and flexibility.
All test times/numbers are recorded and used for baseline data and future tests (goal setting).
Our PE staff focuses on 4 tests at ST:
1) The Pacer Test
This is an aerobic endurance test done indoors. Students run back and forth
(20 meters long) following a cadence. The cadence gets quicker with time.

2) The Mile Test
This is another aerobic endurance test usually done outdoors. Students will run
1 mile (4 laps) on the track.
6th grade district goal: Boys & Girls (12:00)
7th grade district goal: Boys & Girls (11:00)
8th grade district goal: Boys & Girls (10:00)
3) The Push-up Test
This is a muscular endurance test. Students will follow a cadence and perform
as many push-ups as they can.
6th grade district goal: Boys & Girls (15)

4) The Curl-Up Test
This is another muscular endurance test. Students will follow a cadence and
perform as many curl-ups (sit-ups) as they can.
6th grade district goal: Boys (40) Girls (40)
7th grade district goal: Boys (45) Girls (45)
8th grade district goal: Boys (50) Girls (50)
Other Units:
Games/Activities: Archery, Badminton, Baseball (wiffleball), Basketball, Boats (pool), Catching/Throwing, Dodgeball, Eclipse Ball, Frisbee Golf, Football, GaGa Ball, Health, Hockey, Kickball, Lacrosse, Soccer, Swimming (more information on menu tab), Team Building, Volleyball, Wrestling, 4-Square, 9 Square in the Air, Etc.
Holiday-Themed Games: Our staff will incorporate holiday-themed games into our class. These games and activities are usually co-ed.
