This event is open to any student who is interested in learning more about the fall musical audition/interview process BEFORE the actual dates. Junior Thespian students will be on hand to answer questions, help with rehearsing monologues, and guiding activities. This is strictly a low-impact approach to learning more about the Cougar Theater department!
New this year, we are going to have a "behind the scenes" event for our fall musical. This is strictly to raise money to pay for the $55/student fee to attend the all-state Junior Thespian convention in April and perform one musical number from Beetlejuice Jr. on the JCCC stage. This fundraiser will be aimed at elementary students and middle school students and they will be able to participate in various activities and get a sneak peek of a musical number rehearsal from the upcoming show!
This workshop is during the school day for invited ITMS (and Santa Fe Trail) theater students -- usually the 8th graders involved in the spring play, as well as the Junior Thespians. It is a series of workshops that allow the students to see the high school theater facilities like the dedicated scene shop, costume area, dressing rooms, technical booth, catwalk, and other areas of backstage. They do some technical challenges, along with participating in improv activities.
This all-day Saturday event has been held at Johnson County Community College (JCCC) and is open to any interested theater student -- not just Junior Thespians. Schools from all over the state attend this event to learn more about various aspects of theater via workshops and competitions. Students can sign up for workshops they are interested in, such as puppetry, improvisation, costuming, lighting, etc. There is a fee and students need to provide their own transportation to and from JCCC. More information will be available starting in January. New this year: we are planning on performing a musical number from our fall musical to perform onstage!
The Junior Thespians sponsor this event to showcase the different student projects from various ITMS elective classes. Past events have included robotics demonstrations, orchestra performances, art gallery, culinary treats, theater skits, etc. There is no admission fee: this is strictly to showcase student learning throughout the year.
