There are a few ways you can help the theater department by donating your time or items.
Donating Time
Supervising help during rehearsals: Helping cast members run lines, supervising crew work, basically helping supervise the 30+ kids for 1 1/2 hours after school. If you are available and interested, please let me know and I can give you the rehearsal schedule and you may pick whatever days work best for you.
Specialty help: If you are unable to come in after school, there are several things you can do in your own home. In the past we have had parents build set pieces in their home workshops, sew costume pieces in their living rooms, or make props in their garage. The students on the prop and set crew usually do the bulk of the work during rehearsals, but we can always use extra assistance! If you have other ideas for helping the theater department, please let me know.
Makeup help on performance dates: we will need some adults to help the students do specialty makeup for each performance. If you are skilled in zombie makeup or would like to learn how to do it (and thereby help with 30 students apply it), please contact me.
Donating Items
Props for Beetlejuice. All items will be returned if specified. Any donations will get a shout-out in the program!
older baby crib (needs to suggest that it is in the process of being assembled
newspapers (any kind, will just need to be "read" during the show)
ukelele
moving boxes, various sizes
music triangle
victrola (will be VERY careful with this!)
old cameras (do not have to work)
2 white bedsheets (will be cut up to use as ghost outfits)
large wooden salad bowl
chafing dishes with lids (need 3 total)
springy children's play tunnels (2 preferably) -- these will not be able to be returned
Department items wish list. These are items that the students regularly use or would help them with functioning backstage.
11" fabric cubes (any color) to organize fabric and costume closet items like hats, purses, etc.
AA batteries for headsets
Juice boxes (we use these during performance weeks for the "Break-a-Leg Breakfasts" for both the fall musical and spring plays; we provide the doughnuts so they are fresh those mornings)
ziplock bags (sandwich, quart or gallon size) We use these to make personal makeup bags for the show, as well as corralling craft items like feathers, cording, etc.
suitbags, preferably with pockets. We would use these to contain costumes and their accessories. These would be especially useful when the 8th grade travels to Olathe North for the April performances.
metal, freestanding hat rack (any color). We would use this in the costume closet to hang longer items like feather boas, sashes, etc. We could also use this as a prop if needed.
command strips and hooks, assorted sizes
large cooler on wheels for concessions drinks
any old Halloween costumes that would fit middle schoolers :)
Monetary donations. You can donate money online through Parentvue or in person. We are trying to raise money to pay for the cast to attend the KS JFest in April so they can not only participate in the various theater workshops, but so they can perform a number from Beetlejuice on the Johnson County Community College stage. The cost is $55/student (all day workshops, lunch, t-shirt) and I'm anticipating we will have at least 25 students. Any amounts for "KSJFest donations" will go towards reducing the entry fee for all the students.
