I completed these drawing tutorials over nine weeks, following the movies directed by Kevin Henry. They started easy, with simple shapes and one-point perspective, but then progressed to difficult isometric and 3D drawings. I watched and took notes on 46 videos in total, and completed all of the drawings you will see below. Enjoy!
a place or position affording a good view of something
all lines converge to a single vanishing point
similar to orthographic front view but has depth
shortest distance between two points
represents a 3-D object by using multiple 2-D sketches
sketches are shown at a 90-degree angle and are combined to make the full picture
requires different information for each view and projection
effective in communicating ideas
shows three sides, uses parallel projection lines
3-D version of orthographic
shows three sides, lines recede to two vanishing points
doesn't have any faces perpendicular to viewer
2-D, could cut it out
3-D object made by combining shapes
change as we move around them
an optical illusion that causes objects that are farther away to appear smaller
sits behind a product to establish depth and frame illustrations
craetes middle ground between product and paper
Through doing these drawing tutorials, I was able to learn a lot about the basics of sketching, especially when it comes to product design. I think it's clear to see my improvement throughout the weeks which is something I am proud of. I put a lot of time and effort into doing these every week, and I hope that it will help me with designing my current product, the ElectraSleeve.
One thing I succeeded in with my drawing tutorials was communication. I think I improved a lot with the ability to communicate my ideas through my sketches. I also was a conscientious learner throughout this activity because I was taking all of his lessons into account while sketching my assignments. I was thorough in taking notes which helped me grasp the subjects quicker.
While sketching in the future, I want to improve my creativity. For most of my sketches, I followed exactly what the instructor was doing, and I think I would have a much harder time doing it on my own. It will be interesting to see how well I do with sketching and designing my product when I don't have someone telling me how to do it.
