Since my last update on our capstone project, my group has worked very hard on prototyping our product and getting the motor to work. We presented at Open House and will be presenting to the STEM Board again next week to update them on our progress. Our most recent work is below, including our STEM Board presentation, our printed poster, and a video of our motor spinning. In the next few weeks, we plan to 3D model a spool for the motor, so that it can be connected to the lace, and start to build the sock.
This is a video of our motor spinning when connected to a full Arduino board and plugged into the code on a MacBook. Next, we plan to transfer it to a regular, smaller breadboard and add a battery so it can power itself.
a way to organize all possible ideas based on function
allows you to see which part will be best for each function
in our case, we used this to discover that using elastic laces and a motor to reel them in would be the best possible idea
a way to test and prove that something works or doesn't
they help tremendously with seeing where the downfalls in the project are, and where those functions are lacking
we will be testing the code and the amount of pressure given by the band
We have made a lot of progress in the past few weeks which has relieved a lot of stress. With help from Zane, we were able to get the motor up and running, the main piece of our project. We will now start to build around that and work to make it better.
My group and I have continued to have good communication and collaboration in this project, which is integral for group work. We divvy up the work a lot, so Conor and Sola are usually working with Zane to code, while Sahasra and I work on class assignments. We still get along well and enjoy working with each other, which makes it less painful to work on the project.
Something we could work on is time management, as we are starting to get stressed about the due date for this project. We only have around a month left and we still have a lot of work to do. I wish that we had started working hard and productive much earlier than we did, but we are now playing catchup.
