The final weeks of our capstone project were filled with accomplishment, laughter, and unexpected loss. We presented at STEM night, after our motor got fried the day before. Our prototype didn't work anymore, but we still had a solid concept design. The week after, I was informed that our mentor and classmate, Zane Marshall, tragically passed away. My group and I were stunned. Someone who had so graciously helped us every step of the way, taught the boys how to code, and laughed with us had suddenly been taken out of our life forever. It was hard to continue working on our prototype without thinking of Zane, and especially hard to work on it without his help. The assignments we have recently done and our STEM night set-up is shown below.
This is the poster explaining our project that we printed out for STEM night. It details the different components and functions of the ElectraSleeve.

To the left is a link to our product website. It includes basic information about our product, frequently asked questions, our contact information, and what more we would've done if we had more time.
This video goes over an overall description of our year-long project. We presented this presentation at STEM Night as well.

the STEM board gave us $205 to work with for our project, and we had a remaining $88.68

The last stretch of this year-long project was extremely unexpected. My classmates and I were forever changed by the loss of Zane, and it was hard to go to class and see his empty chair there. He was always so helpful in class even though he was so much smarter than us, and we would never have gotten our motor to spin without him. However, I was glad to have bonded with him over the year and have some great memories to look back on.
On the team side, I was extremely happy with the team I ended up in. Although we weren't always the most productive and never knew the most about engineering, I truly had a great time with them throughout the year. Our communication was fluid and I could talk to them about anything, even through the hard times. I felt comforted and supported when we were down to the wire.
However, I do think my team lacked some expertise in engineering, which was what set us back in the project. Most other groups had at least one person who was very knowledgeable about circuits or engineering, but we did not. We struggled together and learned a lot about engineering throughout the school year. I have grown a lot in this class and I will always cherish the memories I have made this year.
