Fall Season

Community Event

In our community around Novato, I feel that we do a great job of coming together for support! A great example was the packed stands of San Marin High School during our NCS championship football game! The crowd was full, excited, and loaded with energy that contributed to a huge win for our school and town! So, why do we not showcase our collectiveness and collaboration more often? I believe we could implement events for our schools or local businesses around Novato to provide more chances to bring our community together while benefitting local causes. And at the same time, we could create something that not only boosts morale, but physical activity and wellness too! An event that can achieve all these aspects is one that I think would be perfect for our town.

A possible event that could do this might be a charity run or other athletic event such as an obstable course. If we put together a run/marathon where people could donate and proceeds could go to the schools or a specific charity organization, it would surely be successful in bringing people together. Some benefits of implementing this event would be a boost in athletic activty, and it would be a healthy way of getting outside. It would also be a great option as it would take place outdoors, promoting Covid-19 safety measures. And although a marathon is hard work, this event would be all about having fun. Whether you finish first, last, or not at all, this run is simply a chance to show support and participate in our commnuity. For the physical bonuses, like any other exercise, running has been proven to be very effective to improve your health. Whether you are running or walking, as long as you're moving, it'll help you increase your cardiovascular fitness and lose weight because it'll keep you active. It is also great for your mind! Running, like any other exercise, benefits you by releasing endorphins in your body which makes you feel good and improves your mood. In a fun run there is often the added bonus of knowing it's for a good cause, like a charity or philanthropy event. It's been proven that when you help others it makes you feel better, so running a fun run is something selfless that makes you feel great! Last, a fun run helps you to connect with family, friends, workmates, like-minded-people and with your community. You can get to know your neighbors and bond with them as you'll all be running, having fun and supporting the same cause.

I have seen a lot of great examples of this such as the color run and bubble run, which are both events that support charities or schools. But I want to see more in our town! I don't just want to hear about something that happened somewhere else, I want to take part of something right here in my town! I want to create a fun event such as these that draws everyone in Novato out to participate! This event could take place here in our downtown! I think closing off the streets and creating a loop that runs all through our town would be so cool to see! Promotional fliers could be posted around town with the details of when the event will be, where it will take place, and why we are doing it. It could explain the purpose of this race and persuade all demographics of people in Novato to come out and participate. This event would be targeting the Novato community as a whole. In support of schools or charities, this event would be a great oppurtunity to bring everyone together in a way I have not seen from this town yet. I know Novato has it in us, and we should show our support and energy in a loud and proud way!



Winter Season

What's Next?

As high school eventually comes to an end, I know that my career in cheer will as well. While I have enjoyed every part of it and learned so much, I know that I do not plan on continuing in college. I want to go to a very academic school and will have a lot of other priorities, leaving not very much time for a serious committment to cheer. As I do not plan on going further will cheer beyond high school, I know it is important to find other activites to stay in shape and maintain a healthy lifestyle. My top fitness choice I have wanted to do for a while now is getting a gym membership at a local gym. Now that my cheer season is over, I will have much more free time. And any of this time that I do not spend academically, I want to spend continuing to improve my overall physical health. I believe signing up for a gym is honestly the best way to achieve this as I can continue to get stronger and have a wider variety of weights and machines available. I can also enhance my cardio with treadmills, stair-climbers, and other cardio-focused excercises. I want to make a priority to have gym days during the school week. I can seperate my schedule to not interfere with other activities, as they could simply replace my previous practice schedule. I think this will be an amazing choice to further improve my strength and overall physical health.

In the past, I have been only working out with my weights at home. Working out at home makes it harder to stay motivated and focused. Getting out and going to a gym everyday allows you to build a routine and better focus. There are a lot less distractions at the gym then there are in your home, making it much easier to stay focused. Another benefit of going to the gym is all the great mental health benefits it provides. Going to the gym puts you in contact with people on a regular basis and will enhance your social life. It gives you a chance to meet knew people and be surrounded by others who can help motivate and inspire you. Research also shows it can make you sleep better if you exercise each day. Sleeping better will improve your overall mood and your energy levels.



This choice/activity is one that targets a variety of health related fitness components. In maintaining a consistent and diverse gym routine, I would be able to workout every part of my body that I choose to. Some compoments I could target include cardiovascular endurance, muscular endurance, muscular strength, flexibility, and body composition. All of these could be achieved through various activities a gym offers such as running/cardio, weightlifting/strength machines, etc. Overall, adding a gym routine to my life could benefit me in so many ways and be a great way to stay active and fit as my sports seasons come to an end.
