For this project, we were instructed to make a video explaining the physics of a simple sports motion to help teach people who have never played before or advise people who play the sport. My group and I chose a very common but difficult move in volleyball. The attack and kill, most commonly known as a spike. It is very important for a player to know the physics of a kill so that they can understand where their power is coming for and how much they need to be at the top of their game. So, my group and I set out to figure out and prove the best way to spike the ball. We created a video explaining the form, physics, and calculations of how to do so.
This is the original story board I made for my group. Since I was the only attacker in my group, I was in charge of making the steps and telling my group how to explain why I take the steps I do in an attack. As we went through the process of making our video, we stayed on track with the story board. All of our steps were planned out and executed in the video so that the person watching can easily understand what we were trying to tell them.
This is our final video. In the video we explain the form of the attack. We also explain the physics of the attack with calculations. In the video I show how to transition off of the net so that the viewer can understand how to get from the defensive position to the correct position that allows them to begin the approach toward the net. Throughout the attack it is very important that you swing your arms down so that by the time you are ready to jump to hit the ball you can use the momentum from your arms to get as much height as possible. I am very proud of the final product our group came up with. We put in a lot of time and effort in the week we had to work on the project. I hope people who watch the video learn something new.
