Reverse Engineering

Project Overview

This project served as a continuation to the Break It Apart project. Our table group was assigned an item that one of us previously disassembled. We were tasked with writing a report and making a presentation on how the object we got functioned, and how we could possibly improve it. Our group worked on a small, portable, LCD projector. Here is what we found.

Final Report

The Final Report is a detailed explanation and analysis of the LCD projector we disassembled. It also goes over the shortcomings of the original design, and how they could be improved with small quality of life adjustments.

Presentation

This Presentation is a condensation of our Final Report into an easily digestible format. It goes over the basic mechanics of the projector we researched, as well as an addition of a "Wow Factor." This being something fantastical in the projector that we found super interesting. We decided to look more thoroughly into the dichroic mirrors, how they were conceived, and how they function.

Reflection

This project was pretty involved. There were a lot of different parts and tasks that needed to be accomplished in a relatively short of time. That is why I am very grateful for the group I was in, and how we divided the work. Using a GANTT chart, we delegated each role of the project to best optimize our workflow. I was tasked with the Material Analysis, as well as working collaboratively on the Purpose and Hypothesis. The end result was a high amount of collaboration and communication between all group members, and a product we were all happy with.

Something I think I learned from this project, or more specifically presenting our findings, was conciseness. We had to pari down our large report into easily legible and clean presentation. I learned that less is often more when giving large scale presentations. Everything on the presentation should be understood at a baseline level just by looking at the slides, while also being greatly enhanced by oral presentation. It taught the way I will be presenting for the rest of this class, and for the foreseeable future.
