You Have the Power

Project Overview

For our final project in Chemistry we had to discover and explain a way in which Chemical Energy is converted into a more practical, and useful form of energy. We also had to find how we could measure the energy transfer. We decided to look at how much maple syrup one would have to chug in order to have enough energy to run a kilometer.

Evidence of Work

Jacob Manville - Proof of Efficacy

Proof of Efficacy Doc

This Document goes over the ways in which energy is transferred from a food to mechanical energy. It also explains any modifications we made to the trial, my personal results for the calories I need to consume, and the molecular blueprint.

Reflection

This was the most individualistic project I've done in a while for a STEM class. While I did the research with a partner, the actual content of the Proof of Efficacy Doc was done entirely by myself. So, I think my Character benefited greatly from this project. I really had to take more accountability, because I had to do a section of the project entirely by myself. This project also flexed my Critical Thinking skills, as it was much more conceptual than the rest of the projects I did this semester. I was researching a concept, not making a thing, so I had to think more about that.

I think I could've worked harder on my Conscientious Learning and Cultural Competence. This is because, I never really got invested into this project, nor do I care about it even now. I'd be happy if I never had to discuss a chemistry concept again, and I think that just proves that those skills were really lacking for me. Overall, this final project was easy, and the least annoying thing it possibly could have been. I'm happy that it is over with.
