Homeostasis is your bodies way of balancing itself under unusual circumstances. To test this my group and I took our blood pressure 15 minutes before, 15 minutes into, and 15 minutes after doing homework. We tested out blood pressure by using a blood pressure machine. To conduct this experiment we flowed the scientific method. We hypothesized that our blood pressure would increase during the homework session. After conducting the experiment we came to the conclusion that out hypothesis was correct. Our groups blood pressure went up by around 7 systolic points and 4 diastolic points. After finishing our experiment we wrote a lab report and shared with other group. It was very interesting to see other groups tests and outcomes as well.
Systolic blood pressure- maximum pressure your heart exerts while beating
Diastolic blood pressure- amount of pressure in your arteries between beats
Homeostasis-the state of steady internal, physical, and chemical conditions maintained by living systems
Epinephrine- a hormone that causes an increase in heart rate, muscle strength, blood pressure, and sugar metabolism
Angiotensin- A hormone that causes vasoconstriction and an increase in blood pressure
Scientific method-
Question- Driving question
Observation- The act of taking data by using natural senses
Hypothesis - Educated guess
Experiment- The test with variables and different groups
Collect data- Using tools, numbers, etc
Data Analysis- What does it mean?
Conclusion- Summary
Report findings- Share
Independent variable- the variable that does not rely on anything else- for example, time
Dependent variable- the variable being tested and measured in an experiment
Control group- The "normal" group not being experimented on
Trial- A way to test the value or quality of an experiment- not altered
Hypothesis- An educated guess as to what will happen- can be tested
Experimental trial- the same as a trial but with the variables altered
While this was a more condensed unit there are still aspects of my academic character that I though I did well at using while there where some things that I could improve on. One example of something that I would do different next time would be doing multiple different tests. This would allows for more accurate data. Another aspect of the project that I could improve on was doing work cited in MLA format. While I do know how to cite a website, I could learn how to do it in a much quicker manner so I can do other tasks more efficiently.
Two things that I did well on in this project was communicating with my teammates and dividing the work. As the main organizer of the group, I did a good job by helping teammates with tasks and always being there to help edit and revise writing, while carrying my own weight for my group. I also did a good job of dividing the work so everyone had an equal amount. this allowed us to get our project in on time.
