What is JOMB Bot?

JOMB Bot is a child’s toy used to pick up trash found in ocean shores. JOMB Bots main purpose is to inspire! We want younger generations to be encouraged to give back to the environment and help save our planet. JOMB Bots main function is to pick up trash. We also made it so it can be used as a floatation device and a net to play fun games! JOMB Bot can be used to save our planet and bring families together through fun game play and relaxation!

Why JOMB Bot?

JOMB Bot is not only effective, environmentally friendly, and incredibly fun to use, but it gets youth involved in saving our planet. We are designing something that works to encourage youth to give back to their community and save our planet. It brings joy to all our hearts and we look forward to the great impacts JOMB Bot has to offer in the near future! Who would not want to be a part of such a positive impact for our planet?

Our current tests show JOMB Bot averages at being 70% effective, with plans of that number greatly increasing in the future. In other words JOMB Bot picks up 7 pieces of trash out of 10 in just one sweep. We plan to get that number to 90% which was above our original goal of 85%!

JOMB Bot is extremely child safe. The net holes are small enough where children ages 5+ should not have a problem getting tangled in the holes. JOMB Bot is lightweight and easy for youth to carry and drag along the ocean surface. JOMB Bot is also colored brightly so that parents can easily spot their children from 50 meters away!

JOMB Bot is also super durable and will last consumers a long time of fun and benefits. The flexible yet strong design allows it to resist ocean waves and currents. It is easy to store in both a house and a car, and even easier to carry on one shoulder down to the desired location.

The product is not only saving our planet but it is extremely fun to use. JOMB Bots' primary function is to pick up trash but it can have many other functions. Since JOMB Bot floats it can be used as a floatation device for kids, which is a huge safety element when swimming in the ocean. It can also be used as a target to shoot balls into and play fun games. We want our product to save our ocean, protect our youth, and bring families together!

Reflection

What a fun and successful year we have had! Our team has offically created an easy to use, affordable, childsafe, and effective version of JOMB Bot, that be used by kids 5+ on ocean shores! This project was long and had many up and downs that will be discussed about below.

There were many life skills I gained throughout the year while working on JOMB Bot. The first would be how to create a lab report. I wrote easily 15+ lab reports that ranged from 10-23 pages long. That is a lot of writing! It was hard at first being responsible for so much writing however as the year went on I became quite good at quickly writing up effective reports, that thouroghly explain our experiments and goals!

This class had a lot of work, many would say lots of excessive and tedious work. However, the workload did help me improve my time management skills and throughout the year I learned how to complete 5 team projects, successfully and on time in only a week. In life there is always going to be something that needs to be done and this class helped prepare me for the future workload I am about to face.

This project also helped me learn to take leadership and initiative. Realistically I did the most in my team which could becpme frustrating when other team members where doing almost nothing. Throughout the year I was always spending outside time working on our projects, whether writing up reports, conducting experiments, and buying materials, while the rest of my team was at home doing their own thing. It showed me a lot about how hard working of an individual I am and how I never have to be the one to rely on others for a good grade.

Overall, this project was fun but showed me I am not meant to be an engineer and will never pursue that career. I took a lot a way about myself and how to grow as an individual but realistically learned barely anything about engineering and physics concepts. Maybe in college I will take a course to actually learn the subject since this class was more independent learning rather than teaching based. I look forward to my future studies and maybe one class about engineering at UCSB!
