All About Me!

Hello, my name is Bailey Bernales and I am currently a part of the STEM program at San Marin High School. This website is my digital portfolio and will showcase the work I have completed throughout high school. To see my completed work, click on either "freshman", "sophomore", "junior", or "senior" tab. Then pick a class and filter through different projects completed throughout the year. Hope you enjoy this website!

Let me tell you about myself...

I have been enrolled at San Marin since August 2018, which makes me a part of the wonderful graduating class of 2022. I was accepted into the STEM program Freshman year and have been a part of it ever since. My favorite stem classes so far have been conceptual physics, mathematics, and biology. Outside of STEM, I love taking art classes and writing courses.

On campus, I am super involved in sports. I was on JV Volleyball for my freshman year and became a starter on varsity volleyball for my other three years. In my last two years on varsity, I was voted team captain by my teammates. In my junior year on varsity, I switched my position to a libero (a defensive specialist) and took on the new role of being the leader of the back row. I also played club volleyball during the spring for both my freshman and sophomore years. Unfortunately due to COVID-19 and post-concussion syndrome, I was unable to continue playing volleyball. Alongside volleyball, I played JV Basketball for both my freshman and sophomore years. Similar to my club experience, I was unable to continue playing for the next two years due to COVID-19 and my post-concussion syndrome.

Exercising is a big part of my life and I love going on runs with my two dogs, Dexter and Kobe. During fall, I like to go on runs with my mom to help her train for her soccer season. As well as running, I love hiking, horseback riding, bike riding, and swimming.

Outside of high school, I am super involved in the community when it comes to volunteering. I have volunteered with Novato Unified School District (NUSD) for about 6 years now. I started my volunteering journey by helping teach an after-school art class for elementary school students. Since then, at NUSD I have worked two different internships, volunteered for a full semester helping teach students how to read, and am always helping out at my elementary school carnivals such as the "Fall Festival" or "Christmas Bash". Outside of NUSD I have coached a CYO Girl's Volleyball Team and helped lead a group of new players to our league playoffs! I have also volunteered as a coach/camp counselor at a basketball summer camp. It is a joy working with kids and I look forward to more opportunities with them in the future.

Another huge part of my life is traveling! My parents are huge on traveling the world and embracing other cultures. I have been very privileged to have traveling be such a huge part of my life since birth. Currently, I have been to three continents, 6 countries, and 15 states. I have listed some of my favorite trips down below.

  • Chile: I am 50% Chilean so my family traveled down south to visit tons of family and explore the beautiful country. We visited Chile's capital, coastal towns, the Andes Mountains, and the Atacama Desert. The Atacama Desert is the driest desert on earth, however when we were there a large lightning storm took place were it rained tremendously. After the storm cleared we experienced a beautiful rainbow. It was an amazing trip and I loved being able to meet so many amazing people and see so many amazing landmarks.

  • Yosemite: Yosemite is one of the many National Parks I have visited. As a child, we would travel up to Yosemite with my mother's side of the family. We would go on moderate hikes and swim at the bottom of many waterfalls. Recently, in the summer of 2021, my mother and I decided to go climb Half Dome. We woke up at 4:00 am and left for our hike at 4:30 am. It took us 12 hours to conquer the 18-mile hike. It sure was exhausting but the hike was breathtaking. It was scary climbing up the cables but the view at the top was worth it. I highly recommend this hike to anyone willing to try it!

  • Belize: I love taking risks and exploring my comfort zone. While at Belize, I went swimming with sharks/manta rays/jellyfish, went cave exploring, cliff jumping, zip-lining, and went on a jungle tour! I love animals and it was amazing to be feet away from such beautiful yet dangerous creatures.

  • Yellowstone: We started off our trip by horseback riding every day, all day. We went trailblazing, meaning we made our own pathway up in the mountains of Montana. On one of the rides, we unexpectedly pulled up onto a momma bear and her two cubs. The momma bear immediately jumped up onto her two hind legs. She was probably close to 8ft tall! It was amazing to see these animals in their natural habitat. On another horseback ride, my horse and another horse got into a debacle mid-trip. My horse started bucking up and down and I had to jump off into a large shrub. It was a unique thrill but now I can consider myself a cowgirl!

  • France: My family decided to go on a 21-day road trip throughout France. We started in Paris and ended our journey in Nice. We stayed at around 8 Airbnbs and got to see an abundance of unique sites throughout the country. I loved meeting so many new people and getting to embrace all the different parts of a new culture. This trip also inspired me to take French in high school.
