Marine Reptiles and Birds Mini-poster

Evidence of Work:

For this project, exactly as the last poster, we got make a poster about one new species of marine birds and a marine reptile. It could be any species of our choice so I picked the Atlantic Puffer and Coral Sea Snake. In the mini-poster, we had to research a specific species in each class. For each species it must have listed its phylum, scientific name, common name, and three interesting facts about the species. Also, it required multiple drawings of the animal from different view points. I preferred to draw a picture of the animal in its natural habitat, meaning what it would look like if one just saw it swimming around. For the second drawing I showed more of the inside of the species, that way I could label the atomic parts, another requirement. After doing this for each species, the poster was almost done just needed to be creative an colorful. I did this by writing in colorful pens, but still writing neat and presentable. I also created detailed, fun, and colorful drawings. It was a super fun poster to make and my poster, with both phylums included can be seen below!

It is important for any project to gain background knowledge and new knowledge on the subject as the project continues. Below is explaining some important terms recommended to know to further understand this topic.

Scientific Name: A name used by scientists, especially the taxonomic name of an organism that consists of the genus and species. Usually come from Latin or Greek

Species: The largest group of organisms in which any two individuals of the appropriate sexes or mating types can produce fertile offspring, typically by sexual reproduction.

Kingdom: The second highest taxonomic rank, just below domain. Kingdoms are divided into smaller groups called phyla.

Marine Life: The plants, animals and other organisms that live in the salt water of the sea or ocean, or the brackish water of coastal estuaries.

Atomic Structure: The positively charged nucleus and the negatively charged electrons circling around it, within an atom. An example of atomic structure is what gives energy to atoms and then to molecules.

Bony Fish: Osteichthyes, popularly referred to as the bony fish, is a diverse taxonomic group of fish that have skeletons primarily composed of bone tissue, as opposed to cartilage.

Sea Snakes: coral reef snakes, are a subfamily of venomous elapid snakes, the Hydrophiinae, that inhabit marine environments for most or all of their lives. Most are extensively adapted to a fully aquatic life and are unable to move on land, except for the genus Laticauda, which has limited land movement

Atlantic Puffin: also known as the common puffin, is a species of seabird in the auk family. It is the only puffin native to the Atlantic Ocean; two related species, the tufted puffin and the horned puffin, are found in the northeastern Pacific.

Venomous: Venomous snakes are species of the suborder Serpentes that are capable of producing venom, which they use for killing prey, for defense, and to assist with digestion of their prey. The venom is typically delivered by injection using hollow or grooved fangs, although some venomous snakes lack well-developed fangs.

Reflection:

In conclusion, this project defiantly had a lot of good moments and a couple moments for improvement. Starting off with the good, I think I did a great job with the creativity aspect of this project. I personally love to draw, I believe it such a fun thing to do and have improved on it a lot over the years. I really loved my drawing of the Ocean Sunfish. It is defiantly not a perfect sketch, but it gives a great visual of what they would look like in real life. It has the broad idea of the looks, portraying the colors and shapes using markers. I also, tried to make the poster very colorful. Having a fun looking poster makes it more entertaining to look at, but if done correctly can draw the readers attention in specific parts in a specific order. This makes it easier to catch an audiences attention and make my work more appealing to look at. This poster was numbered which made it easier to know where to look first. Something else I did well in the project was utilizing my character. Through art, I was able to put a lot of myself onto this poster. I was able to utilize my love for drawing in the many small images incorporated in this picture. I love the creativity aspect because you can incorporate yourself and your character in your work. It was super fun and I thought it came out very well.

Every project an individual can do always has room to improve on. For this one the creativity was great, but the writing quality could have been better. There was a good amount required for this poster, but because the drawings stood out so well, it made the writing aspect seem to fall short compared to the drawing. In the future, I will go over what is required. This way the audience and myself, will gain way more knowledge on the subject and it will look better. It is always good to try and learn as much as possible and in the future that will be my goal to learn more, not for a good grade, but for just the joy of learning. Another aspect that needs work is time management. This week , I wish I split this project up into two days. This poster was not rushed and came out very well, I just had a lot of other work to do that same day. I need to do better at time meaning my work in other classes, to allow more time to focus on this class and its projects/works. Besides those two ideas to incorporate next time, the project was very fun and I loved being able to draw, adding my own personal touch to it.
