TKAM Essay & Presentation

Introduction

Although Harper Lee's novel takes place during the 1930s, the story talks about several social justice issues still relevent today. The main goal for this group assignment was to connect a theme in To Kill a Mockingbird to a current event in modern day society. We were also required to research a leader standing up for justice in the issue we chose.

Using the current event and leader we researched during for our project we created a group presentation and wrote an individual essay. We used quotes from the book and quotes about our current event to connect our theme from the book to modern day. Our theme was "Society can use the simple open-midedness of children to overcome racism in our judicial system."

Reflection

I feel very proud of the work I put into these final assignments. I wrote an essay that I feel showcases some of my best writing. I enjoyed this novel a lot and was excited to write a deep, critical thinking paper about it. I also feel like I did well on the presentation. I worked VERY well with my group and used my collaboration skills to help us come up with a presentation that met all the requirements and was related to the theme of the book. My group worked so well together, and contributed so many ideas and opinions on the topic and issue of racism, that assisted me in my writing, and translated into my essay.
