Poetry Unit

The poetry unit was just one of the influencial parts of our curriculem. This unit helped develop our knowledge of poetic and literary devices. This also advanced our writing skills, improving our confidence and public speaking skills along the way. After writing 5 poems, we were required to participate in the class poetry slam, by reading one of our poems.

Reflection

This unit improved my ability to read and analyze poetry. It also developed my vocabulary and tought me some more poetic/literary devices. With these skills, I will be able to further comprehend anything that I read or write from here on out. Somethings that I feel I did well in this unit was use creativity in my poems, as well as write something that I was proud of. I tried to use my full expression and creativity when it came to writing my poems, while still following all the requirements. This also led to me feeling proud of what I wrote. I chose topics that really meant alot to me and created some pieces that I am proud to have my name attached to. Something I could have improved on in this unit was formatting. At some points in the writing process, I felt I could have worded some lines differently. I could have avoided this by making sure my thoughts were being properly transferred onto the paper in an easy to read manner. Another way I could have improved in this unit is that I should have relied less on the examples to create my poems. Even though I was creative in my topics, there were some instances where I could have been more unique in the style of my poems. It is hard to come up with something completly original without influence but I plan to try harder in that arena with all my writing in the future.
