During my sophomore 1 semester, in addition to taking my nursing courses I was also enrolled into two skills lab: health assessment and nursing fundamentals. Every Wednesday throughout the semester I always looked forward to attending my skills lab classes with my peers as our instructors provided ample amount of support and passion to their teaching. I particularly enjoyed my nursing fundamentals lab taught by Professor Potenciano S. where it offered hands-on experience as we not only learned how to insert a urinary catheter, but also how to insert a nasogastric tube, perform tracheostomy, and give injections (intramuscular, subcutaneous, intravenous, and intradermal).
During the Spring 2020 semester, which was unfortunately cut short due to COVID-19, I was able to provide in-person support on Wednesday mornings with a couple of nursing students (some Juniors and Seniors). As lab assistants, we aided in providing demonstrations to the class of various procedures, obtaining supplies needed, guiding students when practicing new skills on the simulation mannequin, and proctoring students during their skills check off.
