This paper was written as my final project in my Honors Service Learning Just Learning: Books Not Bars class taught by Professor Julia van der Ryn in Spring 2019. The open-ended prompt provided a rough guideline to make connections between material taught in class, experience gained from working with my community partner (Next Generation Scholars), and possible societal issues which students in the San Rafael community face.
