Intro To Studio Art

Doodle Drawing

It took me a while to come up with something would fit the doodles on the page. My first idea was to do some sort of flying thing but I wasn't quite sure how to do it. I started drawing the dragon and it just all came together. I think the subtle black stripes on it are cool. I also tried a lot of shading on it. I didn't want just a dragon so I added some building so i would look like it was flying over a city. That was the hardest part, making the building look like they were building and small compared to the dragon and not look like a bunch of rectangles. I am very happy with the way that this turned out and I really enjoyed making this. This would be fun to paint or detail with too.

3D Story

I chose this idea because i wanted to make a sort of scene, and not just an object. I didn't want it to be simplistic, I wanted to have different parts as you look at it such as the screen and the chair. I used a Mario paper as the screen for the computer and m&m's for the inside of the cup. I learned that even if you have few resources you can make some really cool things and that creativity doesn't really have a limit. The setup is kind of half my room, half what i want it to look like. I didn't really have any idea what to do until i started walking around my house looking for inspiration. This piece is meaningful to me because it's like a real thing in my life, not something fantasy or something i made up, it's something i took inspiration from to make it cool. I like how it has the person typing on the keyboard that i made, although i could have spent more time making it look better and nicer, like putting letters on the keyboard.

The Legendary Glazed Jar

I chose this subject because I did not want to do an ordinary jar, i wanted to do something representing me, and I love ducks. Ducks are my favorite animal, so I decided to do it. I had to look up a few pictures of ducks to make it right, for the nose; where to put it, I had to check to make sure that ducks didn't have ears, and i had to make the beak the right length. I wanted to add some sort of spice to it, not just an ordinary duck, so I added a stripe/battle scar depending on how you see it. The goal of the project was to create a jar that wasn't simple, but made into something unique. I think i definitely achieved that goal, I made a jar into a unique sort of duck, so I think i definitely achieved that goal. This piece can influence my other artworks because at first i thought this would turn out terrible, but it turned out better than i expected, so i know that i can thinking it will turn out terrible doesn't mean it will.

Dragon Egg Whistle

This whistle was a lot of fun, because unlike the jar, i had an awkward base shape to start with. The whistle is a dragon egg with a dragon popping out of it, like the wings and the head. I chose to do the dragon because the whistle i made looked a lot like an egg and i like doing animals. I looked up a lot of pictures of dragon eggs to try to get an idea and get the stripe right. My goal was try to make it look like a dragon popping out of an egg and i think I did that well. I wanted a dark tone to it, with the purple and the black. My favorite part was making the wings pop out of the egg. At first I didn't think I would be able to get it to look good, but I did and this will definitely influence my future art pieces.

Red and Yellow Coil Bowl

This bowl was definitely a lot different from the other art projects I've done but it was a lot of fun to do. I had seen a lot of people do patterns and symmetric things on the bowl, and I wanted mine to be sort of chaotic with no symmetry. I wasn't totally sure if I should at first but I think it looks really cool. I learned that no symmetry can be just as cool as symmetry. I used yellow and red because those are my favorite color combo and I tried to blend them a little at the top and I think it came out really good. This is definitively what I hoped for on this. I also made the bowl so it would have 7 small holes. I'm not really sure why, but it looks really cool.

Hand Drawing

This project was definitely a lot harder than my others ones, choosing a good picture of my hand, and the shading and value was definitely difficult. I learned all sorts of new things for this project; shading, value, texture. In the end, I really liked the way this turned out. Even though a lot of it was difficult, it was a lot of fun. My favorite part about this project is the ends of the fingers, I think I shaded them really good to fit with the hand. This artwork will influence my future pieces because now I know how to shade, and add value so the object looks three dimensional.

Watercolor Axolotl

I decided to do an Axolotl because I think they look really cool and have a nice vibe to it. Axolotls are technically water salamanders but are considered fish by most people. Axolotls are usually pink, so I wanted to do something similar to that, originally I was going to do red, but I had to start over because I was water coloring too dark. I decided to do purple and have the background be a yellowish red which I think looks amazing like a sunset. I learned how to blend the water color in this project and how to do shadows using watercolors. This is one of the most fun projects I have done. My favorite part about the axolotl that I did is the sort of freckles on the Axolotl's face which I think turned out really realistic compared to the picture I used as a guide for this. This was definitely better than I hoped for, this will influence by future artwork pieces because I know I can use watercolor and make all sorts of good shading, tints, and shades.
