In the last meeting, Dr. Salahuddin Harithuddin discussed Ethics and Integrity, one of the most important principles we should value as a student. Basically, upon the discussion, I learned that ethics is the subject being taught of becoming a good person and making good decisions, this applies to our day-to-day life because not knowing what we are doing could affect someone else decision-making in the process. Ethics is a disciplinary action being taught. Integrity is similar because when applying ethics you applying integrity, being honest and truthful.
According to International Center for Academic Integrity, 2014. Enacting academic integrity means taking action with responsibility, honesty, respect, trust, fairness, and courage in any activity related to academic work and avoiding any kind of cheating or dishonest action even when the work is especially difficult. From this statement, we can infer that as a student we should be aware of our actions including the way we decide due to the fact that it would allow us to reflect if our actions are right or wrong.
Furthermore, ethics provide a framework for categorizing discipline, honesty, and integrity in the actions we perform throughout the day. Individuals are more likely to follow rules and act responsibly when ethics act as a guideline to influence behavior and make the right choice. Therefore, ethics play a crucial role in the smooth running of education.
Truthfulness and honesty are attributes of a person with integrity. His presence is admired everywhere and establishes a respected place for himself in society. He is considered at the time of making critical decisions. He becomes a source of inspiration for everyone. As a result of his strong and unwavering character, he starts to gain charisma, and he begins to influence others. People with integrity will always be committed to righteousness and strive for justice. On every occasion, he strives for excellence and does everything to the best of his ability. Clearly, the values they cherish can be seen in their work. In addition, people with high integrity are apt to attract other people of similar qualities from a range of different industries. Their strong character will impress others and they will succeed in all spheres of life. Regardless of age, gender, or caste, everyone should develop Integrity as a virtue.
In conclusion, Integrity implies being truthful, and honest to yourself in each and every aspect of life. It is the choices and decisions that you make when the situations are in favor or against you. Make integrity, moral values, and ethics a part of your life, and teach the same to your children so that they treasure the true value of life. Conversely, ethics is what guides us in telling the truth, keeping our promises, or helping someone in need. We make decisions every day based on a framework of ethics, which helps us avoid unjust outcomes and create positive impacts.
