During our seminar with Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Abd. Rahim Abu Talib of the Aerospace Engineering department, I was very excited due to the fact that I will gain knowledge about engineerings such as the background of the engineering profession, different engineering fields, and multidisciplinary engineering. The fact that one of the great professionals will speak about our chosen careers is also an honor and a privilege for us students.
Based on our discussion with Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Abd. Rahim Abu Talib, I learned that there are four main branches of engineering these are Civil engineering, Mechanical engineering, Electrical engineering, and Chemical engineering. To discuss these branches, Civil engineering is a professional engineering discipline that deals with the design, construction, and maintenance of the physical and naturally built environment. Mechanical engineer designs analyze, manufacture, and maintain mechanical systems using engineering physics and mathematics principles. The field of engineering is one of the oldest and most diverse. Thirdly, the study, design, and application of equipment, devices, and systems that use electricity, electronics, and electromagnetism are the components and characteristics of electrical engineering. Lastly, Chemical engineering is an engineering field that deals with the study of the operation and design of chemical plants as well as methods of improving production. Chemical engineers develop economical commercial processes to convert raw materials into useful products.
Aside from discussing the different engineering branches we also tackled Multidisciplinary Engineering which is a field of engineering combination of more than one branch of engineering that consists of knowledge from several fields of engineering to execute an engineering project. This engineering field is important since it allows engineers to use unique skill sets and specialize in areas that may not be provided in the traditional engineering field only.
To sum it up, I am grateful that I learned so much during our seminar last time and it motivated me to push through my course and studies. Engineering students will benefit from the lessons taught in this course which will apply their knowledge and understanding to their chosen courses.
