Portfolios & LEARNING

While we are a TDSB school, as a free school we do not have structured classes or assignments (we do not follow the Ontario Curriculum guidelines and so do not grant the Ontario Secondary School Diploma). Instead, Alpha II is a portfolio-based school, meaning that mentees here create portfolios of work to document their learning.Ā

Our portfolios are living artifacts that are curated for different purposes. These could be for our Portfolio Night or Coffee House (nights when the wider Alpha II community is invited into the space to see and be a part of the learning that's happening), or as records of learning for mentees. Regardless of where a mentee is moving on to after Alpha II, their portfolio serves as a demonstration of what they're capable of, and is often requested/required for people applying to college, university, or the workplace (each organization having different criteria).

The structure and style of the portfolios is up to the mentees themselves to decide, but some examples of projects and portfolios are below.
