Short depth of field is when a picture focuses on the focal point close to it, while the background is blurred since it is out of focus. I achieved this by lowering my F-Stop to something like F5.6 or F6.3, since the depth of field is shortened. This creates the background blur that's necessary for these types of photos. A picture couldn't classify under short depth of field without this focus aspect, because the background would share an equal amount of focus with the intended focal point. That would classify as long depth of field, which is the exact opposite of short depth of field. When controlling light for my photos, I had to adjust my light so the object in focus could stand out compared to the background in terms of lighting . I did this by making adjustments to my shutter speed.
Long depth of field is when a picture focuses on the general area a fair distance away from the camera. While there could be a specific focal point (like a logo in an area), nothing is out of focus in the picture. I achieved this by setting my F-Stop to something like F18 or F20, because this widens the depth of field in the camera. Controlling light on these pictures is different, because every object in the picture had to have an even light level. The shutter speed was often low on these pictures, because the sky wasn't emitting much light. A fast shutter speed didn't capture any light at all, since the exposure time was too short. The sky itself was rather gray, which made for a cool background, but made the shutter speed adjustments more tedious.
