In the presence of the audiovisual experience, it becomes imperative to introduce supplementary elements that serve to enhance and prolong the impact and the conveyed message inherent in the experience. Specifically, I conceptualised a passport-inspired publication, curated to elicit a profound and personalised engagement among international students with their respective ICH The โpassportโ integrates thoughtfully designed journaling and activity prompts, relating to different categories of ICH, deliberately encouraging students to undertake activities that either enhance the comprehension of their heritage or foster stronger (re)connections to their home culture, even when residing in a foreign setting. In essence, the primary objective of the main experience is to initiate participant reflection on their home culture, with the printed materials subsequently providing a more curated and in-depth focus on the preservation and promotion of ICH.
To provide the audience with a tangible memento of their experience, I turned the main projected narrative posters into a series of printed postcards. This approach facilitates a unique and personal connection with each narrative, as every postcard is thoughtfully paired with a reflection journaling prompt that corresponds to its respective storyline. This, in turn, empowers the recipients to engage in profound introspection about the messages conveyed in the narratives, which might have been fleetingly experienced during the main event. In addition to these physical components, a QR code will be affixed to the postcards, granting holders the opportunity to revisit the experience using Augmented Reality technology, thereby extending the interactive and immersive nature of the project.
Engaging in the passport creation process shed light on a significant gap in my skill set โ a scarcity of hands-on printing proficiency, which may be attributed to my previous experience with online undergraduate studies. Throughout several attempts, I encountered a certain level of production-related challenges that demanded specific solutions. These challenges, while undoubtedly exacting, carried a profound sense of gratification, as they provided invaluable opportunities for personal and professional growth. The process pushed me to explore alternative techniques, refine my problem-solving abilities, and ultimately acquire a new set of skills, underscoring the dual nature of learning new things โ simultaneously arduous yet rewarding.
