😔🙁😐🙂😄
Even as the semester drew to a conclusion, I still found the PDS to be personally intimidating, due to its inherent technical complexity and overwhelmingly numerical emphasis. Nevertheless, the parallel execution of the PDS alongside my design process ultimately proved to be an advantageous tool, providing a structured checklist for assessing the realisation of the proposed solution. This surprisingly assisted me as a communication designer by translating what seemed like a subjective and abstract design practice into tangible metrics, allowing for the rigorous assessment of its feasibility.
Due to its space sensitivity and technical reliance, the project's execution posed several challenges. In the lead-up to the exhibition date, a significant disruption occurred when I received notice that the space initially allocated for my project had been reappropriated for the MADA NOW graduate show. In response, I faced the formidable task of recalibrating my design, which had been intricately tailored to the specific dimensions and characteristics of the initial space, while simultaneously preparing the former space for the exhibition assignment. Fortunately, thanks to communications and discussions with competent academic staff, the original space was regained, allowing for some continuity and alleviating the conundrum that had arisen.
From a logistical standpoint, the real-life execution of this project underscored the multifaceted nature of design. I uncovered that design transcends ambitious conceptual mock-ups to encompass its practical realisation—an aspect conspicuously absent from my online education during the pandemic. Reflecting on this journey, I learned to embrace the significance of being prepared for changes, even in the face of adversity. Additionally, just as meticulous preparations are vital, I learned that the ability to adapt and display flexibility is equally crucial. This has imbued me with an open-minded approach, encouraging me to proactively seek alternative means of conveying my intentions more clearly and achieving my creative vision
