Students are responsible for the general care of the device they have been issued by the school. Devices that are broken or fail to work properly must be taken to the teacher, who will open a ticket to initiate repair.
Students should practice the utmost care when carrying their device. The protective case should be used when carrying the device to and from school. Students should avoid carrying their device while the screen is open.
Device Storage and Charging
Device chargers should be left at home. Students are responsible for charging their devices at home each night in a safe location away from food and drinks.
Though a fully charged device should last throughout the school day, each classroom will be outfitted with a multi-plug charger for situations where a device needs to be charged.
Devices should not be stored in a vehicle or other location where extreme hot or cold temperatures may damage the device and/or its battery.
Students should avoid leaving their devices unattended in open areas including the cafeteria, common areas, the Information Center, athletic fields, and public spaces. Any device left in these areas is in danger of being stolen or damaged.
Internet Filtering
Devices are filtered while on the DoDEA network at school. Devices are also equipped with a filtering software to block access to inappropriate websites while at home. Parents/sponsors must still assume responsibility for monitoring their student's activity while using their school-issued device. Students are responsible for the appropriate use of all digital resources.
Cloud Storage
Students should save their school files on the DoDEA-approved cloud platform (Google Drive). This practice will allow access to files at school and at home. Cloud storage will also ensure files are not lost in the event a device needs to be repaired or exchanged.
Device Warranty
A device warranty is purchased by DoDEA as part of the purchase price of the equipment. The warranty covers the devices from defects in materials and workmanship. This limited warranty covers normal use, mechanical breakdown or faulty construction, and will provide replacement parts necessary to repair the device or device replacement. The warranty does not cover the devices against damage cause by misuse, abuse, or computer viruses.
