First, a reminder for all families: Tomorrow, Monday, October 13th, is a regular school day. Stratford Public Schools did not adopt Columbus Day as a day off.
Looking ahead, this coming week kicks off our first round of conferences, and our staff is preparing to set goals for the academic year that align with school and district priorities, focusing on continued improvement, especially in student learning.
We also ask families to support us in this important work. Student success requires three key ingredients:
School: We will teach the standards and provide engaging learning opportunities.
Family: Parents ensure that students have healthy daily routines and support learning at home.
Student: Students give their best effort every day and take responsibility for their learning.
Together, school + family + student = we can make this a successful year for every child! 💙

Attendance is always the first step toward a successful school year. Each day of school equals 7 hours of learning and social connection for our students — time that truly makes a difference! Once again, we’re thrilled to share that McDonald’s (2439 Barnum Ave.) has partnered with us to celebrate great attendance. Each month, the classroom with the best attendance will enjoy a Happy Meal party sponsored by our friends at McDonald’s. 🍔🍟 Permission forms and menu options will be sent home for parents to complete.

This past week, our classroom teachers submitted the beginning-of-year assessments. We encourage you to review them together with your child and celebrate their efforts! 🎉
This is also a great opportunity to prepare for parent-teacher conferences, where teachers will explain the results in detail and share strategies and resources to support your child’s growth.
Conferences will take place on Thursday, October 16, and Thursday, October 23. Both days will be early dismissal days.
A strong partnership between school and home is essential for student success — let’s continue working together to support every child.

This past week, Miss Massicotte welcomed our savvy second-grade shoppers and their families to an exciting Mall of Learning Grand Opening!
The “Mall of Learning” was vibrant, as student “managers” guided their parents through various centers, showcasing the clever and dedicated creations of our one-of-a-kind Miss Massicotte. Everyone also enjoyed pizza and fried dough in the “food court.” 🍕🍩
The centers were thoughtfully designed to align with our academic goals for the year, including writing, counting coins, reading, and math games.
Learning is a gift, and this event was a wonderful reminder that we can have so much fun along the way! 💙

It’s that time of year again—Trunk-or-Treat is back! 🍬👻
Our Brilliant Falcons have had a blast at this event in past years, and we can’t wait to keep the tradition going!

📍 Where: Franklin Elementary Parking Lot
We need your help to make it a success:
🚗 Decorate a trunk or parking space with a fun, spooky, or creative theme!
🍭 We ask ALL participating families to donate one bag of candy. On the day of the event, we’ll divide the candy evenly among all the decorated trunks so every car is stocked and ready for our Falcons.
🎁 Starting in October, we will begin collecting candy donations!
Please drop them off in our MONSTER BOX located in the main office. 🧟♂️🎃
⏰ If you are setting up your trunk, please arrive by 5:00 PM so everything is ready for the fun to begin.

This year’s theme is “Life is a Puzzle – Solve It,” reminding students about the importance of healthy choices and staying drug-free.
Highlights for Families:
Thursday, October 23: Please wear RED to help bring awareness to Red Ribbon Week.
Friday, October 24: Crazy sock and/or crazy hair day! Students can participate in fun themed dress-down days throughout the week.
Grades 5 & 6 Assembly: Thursday, October 30 – A special assembly for our upper-grade students.

This special event is our way of honoring the brave men and women who have served our country. Mrs. Coletti will be teaching patriotic songs to our Brilliant Falcons, making this another very special tradition at Franklin.

🍎 Food for Kids – The Backpack Program
You are not alone—many families experience food insecurity, and support is available.
Through a partnership between Sterling House and Sodexo, students at Franklin Elementary can receive a bag of food every Friday to take home. Sterling House prepares the food bags, and Sodexo delivers them directly to our school.
To participate, each student must have a completed registration form on file.

Fairfield University students will be supporting classrooms in grades 1 and 3 several times throughout October and November, providing extra help and encouragement to our young learners.
Our goal is to continue strengthening partnerships within our community to enrich learning opportunities for all Franklin students. 💙
