Stoughton Area School District Library Plan
2025-2026 through
2027-2028
2025-2026 through
2027-2028
Using the Future Ready Librarians Framework as a guide, the Stoughton Area School District Library Media Specialists have created a Library Plan as required by the Wisconsin Administrative Code PI 8.01 (2)(h). The Library Plan will be revisited every three years.
The Future Ready Librarian Framework is made up of focus areas, or "wedges," each of which centers around learner-centered literacy. To create the Library Plan, the district's Library Media Specialists assessed each of the wedges to determine areas of strength as well as areas of growth.
The goals for this three-year plan are below.
Goal 1: By the end of the 2027-2028 school year, all K-12 schools in the district will enhance student engagement with literature by providing annual author experiences, including two years of virtual author visits (live or recorded), culminating in an in-person author visit during the 2027-2028 school year.
2025-2026:
Schedule at least two virtual author visits through the LMC at each building
Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate author-visit content into reading and writing lessons, encouraging students to read books by featured authors
Create a district-wide author spotlight newsletter or bulletin to highlight the virtual authors, share book trailers, and promote reading in conjunction with the antiracist resources we already share monthly
Host “Author of the Month” displays in each library, which include books, digital content, and QR codes linking to author interviews or recordings
Use student reflections or exit tickets after each visit to gauge interest and gather feedback
Research authors for in-person visits
Investigate options for fundraising beyond book fairs
2026-2027:
Continue hosting two or more virtual author visits through the LMC at each building
Facilitate book clubs or literature circles centered around a featured author or book related to a virtual visit
Encourage students to create questions for authors, with select ones submitted for a response when possible
Continue to host book fairs and facilitate other fundraising opportunities
Decide on and contract with authors for dates in 2027-28
Order multiple copies of books written by the authors selected
In the spring of 2027, begin to build excitement around the author visit in various ways
Reach out to a bookstore to partner with us for book sales during the author visit
2027-2028:
Prepare students for an in-person author visit with read-alouds, book discussions, and creative response activities like art or writing inspired by the author’s work
Publicize the event through school newsletters and on social media
Collaborate with the public library and discuss the possibility of hosting an evening event
Host a children’s or YA author for an in-person visit
Create a student-authored digital publication or video reflecting on the author’s visit and the impact of the three-year program
Goal 2: By the end of the 2027-2028 school year, Library Media Specialists will lead the development and implementation of an initiative to train at least 80% of K-12 instructional staff and at least 80% of K-12 students on the effective and ethical use of artificial intelligence (AI). Training will include age-appropriate instructional modules for students and professional development for staff, with progress measured through annual participation tracking, surveys, and reflection tools.
2025-2026:
Library Media Specialists receive ongoing training on AI tools, digital ethics, and curriculum integration
Identify age-appropriate, district-approved AI tools for K-12 use
Collaborate with district leadership to align AI practices with digital citizenship, tech use, and academic integrity policies
Create tiered, age-appropriate AI ethics and usage curricula (e.g., digital citizenship lessons with an AI focus) and begin to implement these lessons when they are complete
Begin to offer in-person and asynchronous AI-focused PD sessions for staff across the district
Begin to integrate AI ethics and use into library lessons or collaborative co-teaching units at all grade levels
Use surveys and reflection tools to assess understanding and improve materials
2026-2027
Continue to offer in-person and asynchronous AI-focused PD sessions for staff district-wide
Continue to integrate AI ethics and use into library lessons or collaborative co-teaching units at all grade levels
Continue to present digital citizenship lessons with an AI focus at all grade levels
Work with teachers to align AI topics with grade-level content (e.g., research, writing, computer science, media literacy)
Include AI training in the onboarding of new staff
Use LMS reports and surveys to track how many students and staff are reached
2027-2028
Use participation data and survey feedback to revise the curriculum and training approaches
Continue to offer in-person and asynchronous AI-focused PD sessions using the revised training approaches, being sure to focus on new AI tools as they emerge
Continue to present digital citizenship lessons with an AI focus at all grade levels, revising the curriculum to include the latest AI information
Continue to work with teachers to align AI topics with grade-level content (e.g., research, writing, computer science, media literacy)
Continue to include AI training in the onboarding process for new staff
Host all PD and student modules on a shared platform for easy access and continuity
