General Resident Assistant Training Expectations:
Attendance - ALL RAs are expected to be present for the duration of Resident Assistant Training. This includes all (virtual & in-personal) training sessions, team builders, meals, and area prep times. Any RA requesting to be excused must connect with Assistant Director of Residential Life Education, Jestina Drysdale, Executive Director Steve Radwanski and CC’ Coordinator of Training Mo. The Resident Assistant Manual will be uploaded to the Resident Assistant Resource Website and includes additional guidelines for reference throughout the year.
Alcohol - Resident Assistants may not consume alcohol while participating in any Residential Life organized training, events, or job duties. This substance-free expectation includes Resident Assistant Training between August 15, 2022, through August 24, 2022. It is always expected that residential students uphold all drug and alcohol laws, as well as the University policies located within the Student Handbook and Guide to Residential Life.
Participation - RAs are expected to remain actively engaged during all sessions (this means no phone usage during sessions unless instructed!). Participation is encouraged! Have a positive attitude, give encouragement to fellow RAs and all facilitators.
Behavior - All RAs must adhere to all rules, regulations, and guidelines found in the Campus Code of Conduct, Guide to Residential Life, RA Contract, and RA Manual.
Learn the rules, policies & procedures
Attire - While Resident Assistant Training is not a formal event, please come to training dressed appropriately, i.e. no pajamas, no blankets, etc. Additionally, when the expectation is made clear that formal attire is appropriate RAs should wear the polo provided to such events.
Punctuality - RA Training is a BEAST. Be respectful of our team's time and efforts by being 5 minutes early to all sessions and meals.
Meals - All RAs will be asked to bring their Stockton Student ID and swipe into RA Training meals. All meals are MANDATORY. (We will be using Unrestricted for Fall 2022 Training. Please see the Unrestricted Meals Tab for more information.
Advocate for Yourself & Your Peers - If at any time you feel overwhelmed, or you notice someone else does, do not hesitate to connect with a Professional Staff Member. RA Training can cover some pretty heavy topics, but we're all in this together!
Be respectful - RA Training is a time to learn. Please be respectful of each other by listening, asking questions, and speaking only for yourself. We are proud of the diverse group of student leaders serving our residents.
Please follow the on-duty expectations and maintain a presence on campus even when you are not on duty.
Practice Patience - Our team worked hard last semester to build a training based on assessment and feedback, however, do to the COVID-19 Pandemic, we had to adjust. Please be patient, respectful, flexible, and kind as we work together to do our best.
Virtual Expectations:
Participating virtually is mandatory. While webcam use is not mandatory, it is highly encouraged. Make an effort to get to know the team. Some facilitators may request webcams and if so, you must turn on your cams. Participate through the chat or reactions. If we notice you are not participating in a session, we will reach out to you to check-in. If you are repeatedly not participating, you may receive an unexcused absence. These training sessions are designed intentionally to provide you with knowledge for your position.
Set microphones to mute when not speaking.
Call in from a quiet, well-lit location: everyone should be able to see and hear you clearly.
Arrive five minutes early for each session so you can troubleshoot audio/visual equipment issues before starting. On August 15, 2022, please arrive at the first session 30 minutes early so you can reach out if there are any technical issues. If you have a technical issue, contact Stockton IT and email Jestina.Drysdale@Stockton.edu so we are aware that you may be late.
Test your audio so you can be heard just after logging in.
Get familiar with the tools you’re going to be using. Familiarize yourself with the different tools on zoom that you may be using.
Remove distractions. You might need some instructional tools for the work of the session, but you probably don’t need TikTok open!
Shut down other devices taking up bandwidth if possible to help ensure a stable connection.
Use a headset or earphones where possible to minimize echo and background noise.
Do not post questions in the chat or unmute during a session unless noted specifically by the facilitator. Please write down questions for the end of a session and listen throughout to see if your question is answered.
Try not to repeat questions. Read what’s already there.
