The Solo & Ensemble festival is open to all instrumental students in grades 6-12 and is a chance to perform a solo (by yourself) or an ensemble (with a small group) for a judge. Participants receive feedback and a rating. This year it will be hosted as an online event. Please make sure to read all the details below and fill out the form by Friday, March 5th if you are interested in performing.

This is event is for wind, percussion, and string instrumentalists only. Vocalists and pianists are not eligible for this event.

  1. You must sign up through the form below by Friday, March 5th.

  2. Submit your fee of 1,000 yen (per event) to Mrs. Nozawa in the school store by Friday, March 12th (you will be emailed a form around March 8th).

  3. Your performance must be submitted by Friday, March 26th. There are no extensions for this deadline, and is beyond the control of your band director. Please submit it early in case of technical difficulties. (A link will be sent to you after your fee has been paid.)

  4. Your music selection must be approved by either your private teacher or your band director.

  5. Your performance should be no more than 5 minutes. You may request a double time slot for longer pieces, but it must be no more than 8 minutes.

  6. Your performance should be a single piece or single movement of a larger work. You should not be performing multiple, unrelated pieces.

  7. You must provide a copy of the score. ALL MEASURES MUST BE NUMBERED.

  8. In order to comply with copyright law, performers and accompanist should own a purchased copy of the music.

  9. Your solo must be performed with accompaniment (unless the composer specifically mentions that it is unaccompanied).
