Hello, and welcome to Honors Math for the 2025-2026 School Year! I am so excited for a year full of learning and problem solving all together. Make sure to check back regularly to see what fun activities our scholars are working on.
6th Graders earned their IREADY reward for acheiving 100 lessons as a whole class over the past few weeks. They decided that their reward would be to have a small potluck and enjoy the beautiful spring weather that we have had recently. It is great to watch them take their work seriously and be rewarded for it with fun in the sun!
7th Graders wrapped up their unit on Equations and Inequalities by creating a "Math App" that combines learning with fun! They all came up with unique ideas for games, filled with pitfalls and rewards. They then had to show 5 sample questions that a player may come across in their app, including tips, tricks, and all steps. It was a great testament to their creativity and ability to explain and show their math knowledge!
During our IREADY testing, 8th graders got to participate in a hands-on mini-project to recreate the tallest building in the world: the Burj Khalifa. They used cups to measure and then used linear equations to model how many cups it would take to recreate the building. Real-world math modeling!
While learning about Ratios and Rates, the 6th graders created original lemonade receipes. They used their knowledge of ratios and unit rates to calculate the amount of materials they used and determined a fair price for their drink. The project ended with a "Lemonade Party", where staff and studens voted on whose lemonade was the best!
Honors Math students show what they know in a variety of ways! Students engage in a variety of projects that connect what they are learning in math to themselves and the real-world. It is a great way to showcase creativity in math.
6th graders, while learning about the makeup and operations in our own number system, have the opportunity to create their own number system. They create their own number symbols, operation symbols, and some even explained the importance of using a different base system!
The 7th graders started the year off with a challenging unit about percents and percent change. They used their knowledge to connect to a real-world issue called 'Shrinkflation', where companies charge the same price for a smaller amount of product. They did great research and calculations for this project!
8th graders got to showcase their creativity by creating a variety of equations for a calendar. Each equation's solution was equal to the date in the calendar's box. They were creatively decorated to the month of their choice as well!
6th graders had a blast reviewing for their last test with a friendly game of "Trashketball". Students work in teams to answer math questions and when they get the questions correct the earn the opportunity for their team to shoot. It's a fun way for the kids to get some movement into their learning!
The 7th Graders are learning about Unit Rates. They are doing a kinesthetic activity to calculate their own unit rates through a relay race!
Hello, and welcome to Honors Math for the 2024-2025 School Year! I am so excited for a year full of learning and problem solving all together. Make sure to check back regularly to see what fun activities our scholars are working on.
7th Graders put together their knowledge of Transformations to create an artistic Stained Glass project!
6th Graders are practicing how to solve addition & subtraction equations with a math version game of Battleship!
Honors Math students spent the first day back reviewing topics from before Winter Break. They solved problems, showing all their work, then linked up chainlinks in the correct order to create a full math chain!
While learning about how to add and subtract integers, 7th Graders were taught a card game called Twenty-Five. In this game, black cards are positive and red cards are negative. Students take turns drawing cards from their hands and add their card to the group's total value. Whoever pulls the card to equal 25 wins!
Our Honors Math students love to review before test days with a friendly game of Trashketball! Students work in pairs to answer math questions, and then earn "trashketball" shots to score points!
Each student made name tags using their knowledge of angles, lines, polygons, and triangles to construct their names.
Each student filled out a survey about themself. They then created a poster describing themselves using numbers and mathematical operations.
Students used their past knowledge of graphing on a coordinate grid to make their own individualized shape! Each point represents a true fact about the student that they graphed and connected. The final shape was colored in their favorite color.
