A condition that causes a person to make involuntary sounds and movements called tics. It usually starts during childhood, but the tics and other symptoms usually improve after several years and sometimes go away completely.
Students typically have difficulties with:
Motor tics: e.g. eye blinking, eye rolling, grimacing, shoulder shrugging, limb and head jerking, abdominal tensing, jumping, twirling, etc.
Vocal tics: e.g. whistling, throat clearing, sniffing, coughing, tongue clicking, grunting, repeating something, saying something out of context, etc.
