St. Martha Catholic School – 7th Grade Physical Education & Health Curriculum
At St. Martha Catholic School, the 7th Grade Physical Education and Health program encourages students to take greater responsibility for their physical development, decision-making, and interpersonal growth. Emphasis is placed on refining fitness habits, building muscular strength and endurance, and developing maturity in communication and teamwork—all rooted in Catholic values and the belief that our bodies are gifts from God.
This program helps students deepen their understanding of personal fitness and wellness while learning to manage conflicts respectfully, work cooperatively with peers, and make thoughtful choices regarding their physical health and behaviors.
Understand the importance of extracurricular sports programs for health, skill development, and community engagement
Develop muscular strength and self-control through structured classroom-based physical activities
Build endurance by practicing varied levels, speeds, directions, and movement pathways
Evaluate and adjust personal fitness goals using self-assessment and feedback
Understand the benefits of cardiovascular endurance and how it supports lifelong health
Learn the importance of warm-up and cool-down routines to prevent injury and support recovery
Distinguish between compliance and noncompliance with rules and regulations in sports and games
Develop teamwork and leadership skills by resolving conflicts in a respectful and mature way
Demonstrate Christian values such as patience, fairness, humility, and compassion in physical activities
Health class is integrated with Middle School Religion instruction, where students learn about the connection between physical health, emotional well-being, and their spiritual lives
Topics are addressed from a faith-based perspective and include personal responsibility, moral decision-making, and respect for the body as a temple of the Holy Spirit
The 7th Grade Physical Education and Health program supports students in developing strong bodies, sound minds, and faithful hearts—equipping them for a lifetime of healthy choices and Christ-like character.
