On this page you will find information about:
what each lesson will look like?
instructions on what you should aim to achieve each day
Your off-campus learning will take form as a combination of synchronous (live, at the same time) and asynchronous (individual, not live, at a different time) activity.
START: 5-10 min Check-in - Most lessons will begin with a synchronous greeting, discussion, Zoom, or similar activity where you will be engaging with your teacher and peers in a learning task.
MIDDLE: 20 min Activity - Parts of your lesson will include asynchronous activities. These may be in the form of an individual writing activity, or viewing a video, or an activity where you need to put the device away and do something offline.
END: 5 min Check-out / Exit ticket - Concluding part of each of your lesson is a reflection, check-in, and/or exit ticket task. This may be a brief post to a discussion, or an upload of your work in progress (e.g. photograph of the activity you were completing offline).
After reading your Monday morning Announcements, you notice that your teacher has asked that the class meets virtually via Zoom (synchronous activity). Follow the instructions to join the Zoom session via the link provided. Make sure to join the correct one - pay attention to Zoom name and/or date.
Teacher will conduct a check-in and take the roll.
Teacher will guide you through the lesson, which may involve a 5-10 min presentation, followed by a breakout session where you work with peers on a question and/or problem, and a return to Zoom throughout the lesson.
You will engage in learning interdependently (relying on your teacher and peers, yet also providing your expertise and support to others as you all learn together). This may involve a discussion post, reading or collaborating in a Google Doc, for example. Pay close attention to the time! There is no teacher to remind you that the 'bell will ring'. The Zoom session may still be running, so leave the volume on so that you can hear any messages from your teacher.
The lesson will conclude in Zoom as you complete an 'Exit Ticket'. Ensure to give yourself a few minutes before the 'bell' to complete the set reflection or Exit Ticket. Your teacher will be on the other side, reading your responses, noticing the Exit Tickets being completed, and saying goodbye on Zoom. This is also one way that the teacher will gauge your engagement in learning during each lesson.
If your first lesson for a particular subject takes place on Thursday (for example), it is expected that you would have checked the Canvas Course Announcement prior to the lesson taking place.
Your teacher will conduct a synchronous check-in and roll call activity, be that a live Zoom call, or a discussion on Canvas. This means that you are connecting with your class at the same time for 10-15 minutes.
The remainder of the lesson for this subject will continue asynchronously (on your own). You will need to persevere, manage distractions such as temptation to go online and just chat to friends; remain absorbed in the task at hand.
Conclusion of the lesson will be done via an Exit Ticket, which is to be submitted to demonstrate your learning during the asynchronous time. This may be a quick 2 minute response.
Don't forget to set notifications such as an alarm, to remind you of the Exit Ticket time, so that you can be ready for your next lesson.
