I'M A STUDENT...
I'M A PARENT...
Imagine you are at school, but the location has changed and all of your learning will be taking place at home. You will still follow the same timetable as you do on campus. You will still connect with your peers and teachers. Sometimes, you will see your teacher via video. During other times, you will follow the instructions provided and learn independently. However, you should always continue to ask questions to clarify understanding, just like you would in the actual classroom. This time, you will post a question in Canvas discussions, or you might request a Canvas conference with your teacher. Sometimes, your teacher will initiate a video conference with the whole class as a way of checking in and/or providing instruction online.
It goes without saying that children's emotional wellbeing comes first.
Following a school day routine as outlined on the Junior School and Senior School Guide pages is important in helping students maintain a sense of 'normality' and encourage their resilience.
More information is available on our Parent Guide page.
Yes. This is not optional just because you are not physically present on campus. Your teacher will take a roll based on your online presence. Your attendance will be registered in Edumate just like it is during on-campus lessons.
Think of it like completing a distance learning course. If you have ever talked to any of your peers who have done Open High lessons, they might tell you that this is now very much like Open High. Instead of phone calls with a single student however, you may be joining your entire class in a video call.
Your child will be using the Seesaw Class App to access their off-campus learning. This is different from the Seesaw Family App which is a parent/teacher/student communication tool.
Children have been provided their Class App codes on a printout that was sent home. Please contact the class teacher if you have not received one.
To learn more, please visit Seesaw.

Please follow our Conferencing etiquette:
Try to log online to our class meeting from a quiet, distraction-free environment. We have little time together; let’s try to maximise it!
Please do not sit in your bedroom.
Wear appropriate clothing; the equivalent of your Sports Uniform.
Ensure your background is blurred or completely plain.
Keep your audio on mute until you want to speak. We must work together to limit background noise.
Enable video so that we can see you!
When you want to speak, use the “Reactions – Thumbs Up” feature.
Be sure to unmute yourself when it is your turn to talk.
Use the Chat box to make a point or ask a question. Remember that Chat is public, and may be recorded, and archived.
Appropriate classroom behaviour is expected in our virtual classroom.
Please note that most class conferences will be recorded and available for viewing later.
Yes. Teachers are online, even if the conference is not in progress. Students are encouraged to reach out using their class discussion, chat or post on Seesaw. Teachers have been responding frequently.
In Junior School, teachers will be online from 1:30-2pm.
Senior School students in particular are also encouraged to post their questions to discussion forums and engage with their peers in a Q&A conversation. To build interdependent learners, our students are very familiar with the technique "Ask three before me". Strategies like this one come from research on reciprocal teaching and learning. You can find out more here.
We encourage parents to log into Canvas and/or Seesaw with their child/(ren) and take a walk through the lesson activities. You can view Announcements and Notifications of learning expectations, as well as observe feedback from teachers.
Students are encouraged to engage their questioning skills and continue to engage with their learning beyond the initial discussion post, or answer. They are encouraged to seek feedback from their peers and teacher by asking deeper, probing questions to clarify meaning and strengthen understanding.
