Caviglia Campus was one of the first St Louis school campuses to be certified as a Blue School in the 2020-21 school year.
The Blue School project focused on issues within the local region of Lombardy that students felt have an impact on the wider environment, including the Mediterranean and oceans at large. By discussing the geographical location and surrounding landscapes, considering the aquatic environments that this region is known for, such as Lago Como, the main rivers of northern Italy, the Po and Adda and the famous Navigli canal in the heart of Milan, STEAM down the River became the main theme to address issues associated with the Blue Schools project. This theme has been extended to our sister campus, Colonna, the second school to receive this EU4Oceans certification.
We had a few ideas for our project logo and decided to go with a more generic design. The different shades of blue signify the different colours reflected in different aquatic environments. We use the word STEAM, as all the projects we complete for this project include a multidisciplinary approach to all the things we learn and understanding we apply to our work.
In 2020-21 we took part in a virtual gallery exhibition as part of the Milano Digital Week. We got the opportunity to present our work which was completed after attending a workshop on Artivism delivered by Photography for Future.
At the end of the school year, we were invited to a live event, Our Fight for a Greener Future at Tempio del Futuro Perduto, Milano where we presented all our project outputs to members of the public and also got interviewed by a local environmental magazine.
