Medical research has the power to transform lives, not only for those who participate in it but also for those who benefit from the advances it drives. It affects the quality, safety, and effectiveness of healthcare and informs policy, guidelines, and treatment recommendations. Given its importance, it is essential to recognize that the benefit and availability of these outcomes across populations depend entirely on the inclusivity of the research.
The purpose of this action research project was to identify resources, processes, and practices that enhance the enrollment of racially minoritized patient populations.
In this presentation, I will share best practices and insights from interviews with hospital-based research sites that have successfully enrolled participants from historically underrepresented racial and ethnic communities, along with recommendations to help sites improve their intentional enrollment practices.
