B - Christ the King

Called by Christ

We marked the end of the Church's year this week, with the celebration of Christ the King. We hear in the Gospel how Jesus stands before Pilate and, in response to questioning, answers, "I was born for this."

We have been helping the children this week to consider what their calling from Christ might be - what vocation lies before them? Primary school is a very special time in life, when children's dreams about their future self can be at their most vivid.

We have hoped to inspire and foster within our children this week the idea that, whatever the years ahead hold for them, they can make a positive impact in the world around them.

Are you sitting comfortably?

Stories are a great way of developing children's attention, listening and language development. With this in mind, the Nursery children have been reading stories of interest to them, for example, The Gingerbread Man and Rainbow Fish. We have had lots of activities on offer that link to the stories to help embed the new language learnt and encourage story telling.

Walking the Timeline

Last week, in our Year 3 History lessons, the children learnt about the three periods that make up ‘The Stone Age’. To get a sense of the length of each era, the children walked from the Paleolithic to the Mesolithic and on to the Neolithic. They were amazed at how long the Paleolithic period was compared to the short Neolithic. Luckily, we arrived back in 2024 just in time for the weekend!

Spectacular SPAG!

In Year 5's SPAG session this week, we partnered up for a game of Pictionary and enjoyed drawing present tense sentences. We had flying pigs, climbing children and exploding brains! It really was a lot of fun!

Tech-know-how

In Computing, Year 1 have been exploring the term 'technology'. We started by identifying what technology was and what it wasn't, and concluded that technology is anything that is made to help us - that means that pencils and scissors could also be classed as technology!

We then introduced children to Chromebooks (a form of technology) and looked at the different part of a computer before practising our mouse and keyboard skills through a range of different activities.

Think Pink...

As Year 2 come to the end of their letter writing unit, we were investigating why we think the colour pink is best used for colouring anything and everything! Our felt tip pens have been missing for a few weeks now - a result of carelessness by ourselves - so we are tasked with writing them a persuasive letter begging them to come home! One of the reasons they were so unhappy is because the colour pink is not being used enough. So we are trying to prove that we will use it more...

Great Year 4 history!

This week, we have been focusing on our historical skills of chronological understanding and enquiry as we have examined the expansion of Alexander the Great’s empire. We thought about his legacy and examined some sources from a range of dates which allowed us to think about how significant he was to history. We then made a storyboard which detailed the stages of the expansion of his empire! Fantastic work, Year 4!

Rain, rain, go away!

The rain didn't stop Reception earlier on in the week. Puddles are one of our favorite things, and this time we added bubbles and food colouring to explore colour mixing. The children first of all added the red dye and saw the puddles turn a pink shade. Then when we got the blue dye out and they predicted what colour the puddles might turn. Lots of children came up with their own ideas and, when they started mixing, they could see if they were correct.

Computer Programming

This week, Year 6 have completed a computing programming project learning about variables in games. We started by looking at games with variables and the values they hold and analysing the algorithms behind them. Using Scratch, we then created our own games with different sprites and backgrounds and a changing score. We had to build the algorithms, and then test and debug them to get them to run how we wanted. We had great fun and came up with some fantastic ideas for games.

5I's Vocations

St Ignatius Class treated us to a beautiful class worship this week, where they shared the Tale of the Three Trees. The children explained how each tree dreamed of what its vocation might be and, although the reality turned out to be somewhat different, the spirit of what they hoped to achieve was at the heart of their stories.

The children sang, acted and narrated a beautiful worship that helped us to celebrate the end of the Church's year - Christ the King! Thank you and God bless you 5I.
