Getting to know Christ

In this weekend’s Gospel (24th Sunday in Ordinary Time) Jesus quizzes his disciples, “Who do people say I am?” Only Simon Peter has the confidence to say who Jesus really is, “You are the Christ!”

We have reflected with the children this week on the importance of getting to know each other. As a Catholic community we hold dear to the belief that we are all intentionally made, known and loved by God - who could ask for anything more?

By getting to know each other, we come into closer relationships with God, our maker, too. Classes have been using precious worship time this week to learn more about each other and to celebrate their special hobbies and interests. Ask your child what they learnt about their classmates this week.

One in a Million

Reading, writing and representing numbers to ten million? Check! Year 6 have been working hard to represent numbers in a variety of ways. We have used place value counters, partitioned numbers, created bar models and shown numbers in part-whole models. Once secure with our place value and the relationship between each of the place value columns, we will start to multiply and divide by powers of ten. Take a look at some of our practical and beautifully presented written work.

Inspiring Young Minds!

Year 5 got the year off to a flying start with their first trip this week. We were invited, by Surrey Heartlands Health and Care Partnership, to attend a series of workshops at the University of Surrey in their Clinical Simulation Centre. The aim of the workshops was to expose the children to a variety of different career options through taster sessions in different Allied Health professions. The workshops showcased dietetics, paramedics, nursing, physiotherapy, podiatry and occupational therapy, and the children enjoyed using saturation monitors, dopplers, stethoscopes, blood pressure machines, thermometers and many more helpful aids which form an integral part of these varied and exciting careers. Every session was packed full of lively, hands on, inspiring activities and a huge amount of fun was had by all!

Little Red Reading Hood

This week we have started looking at the story of ‘Little Red Reading Hood’. We had a wonderful time finding different reading nooks across the school and thinking of where might be fun places to read at home. On Wednesday we went on a woodland walk, exploring the route that Little Red took on her way to the library. We thought about what we could see and hear and used this in our writing later in the week. The children love the story and it is a wonderful way to kick start their Year 2 writing journey!

The Joys and Sorrows of Home

To start off the year, Year three have been thinking and talking about their homes. We have recognised that home can be a very joyful place to be but that there are times of sorrow there too. Have a look at our work - do you have these joys and sorrows in your home too?

Ghastly Green Things!

Year 4 had a wonderful experience day yesterday in English to compliment their work on Roald Dahl's 'James and the Giant Peach'. They looked at various 'green things' and created some wonderful vocabulary on what ghastly ingredients these could be when they write a recipe later on this week. They had incredible ideas such as a grape becoming, "an eyeball of a poisonous lizard", asparagus transformed into, " a witch's finger from a haunted house" and a kiwi became, "blue-bearded rhino snot fresh from the hide of a deep-sea water bear" . We can't wait to read their recipes next week!

Getting to know God

It has been a joy to welcome the Year 1 children into school and to get to know them. On the theme of new beginnings, in RE this week, we looked at the beginning of the world - The Creation Story - and how God made everything in it. We talked about the things that God created on each day and how important they are to us. It was a great way to get to know each other!

Getting to know you...

A warm welcome to our new Nursery starters! What a joy it has been playing with you and getting to know your interests. The children have settled so quickly into our routines and activities. It's going to be an enriching year ahead!

Ready for Reception

How grown up they look! Bright and shiny in their new uniforms and smart shoes, it has been such fun welcoming our new Reception cohort into school. We are really looking forward to teaching you this year!

What's on locally?

Congratulations to the school allotment team for bringing home this year's harvest. There were potatoes, apples, pears, rhubarb, onions and sweetcorn galore! Great effort from all involved.
