2021 Vision - Children Part 2

Epiphany Gifts

HAPPY NEW YEAR! - Welcome back to school!

We have used this week’s celebration of the Epiphany of the Lord to refocus on our school mission:

  • Just like the gift of frankincense, we want our behaviour to point the way to God.

  • Just like the gift of gold, we want our learning to share the truth that Christ is King.

  • Just like the gift of myrrh, we want to embrace the life that God calls us to lead.

It's going to be an exciting year ahead!

Kings Day!

Year 1 children enjoyed Kings Day (Latino style) yesterday by experiencing the traditions enjoyed by families in Spain, Mexico and Puerto Rico. We marvelled at the spectacular Madrid Kings Day parade then dressed up for our own fiesta, found out about searching for a hidden toy in the delicious Mexican Rosca de Reyes, and put hay and water under a bed for the camels, just as the excited children of Puerto Rico would, ¡Feliz Día de Reyes! - Happy Kings Day!

Remembering to be grateful

Year 2 had a busy morning on Wednesday morning making handmade notes, cards and gifts for someone special in our lives to show them that we love them and care about them, just like Eddie did in The Marvellous Fluffy Squishy Itty Bitty by Beatrice Alemagna, our new English text.

Reading Champion!

Ayla in 3G has been amazing us with her reading this year. Since the start of December, she has read sixteen chapter books! In the two week Christmas break, she managed to read seven of them - that’s almost one book every two days!

Ayla has been a great source of inspiration to her class and we are so grateful to have an expert to turn to for book recommendations and reviews.

Well done, Ayla! We can’t wait to hear about your latest reading adventure!

Eyes on the Stars

Over Christmas, Year 5 were tasked with creating solar systems to accompany our Earth and Space Science topic. We were amazed by all the hard work the children have put in and the creativity they have shown. We had 3D models, hanging models, ones that light up and even cakes! Well done Year 5!

January’s ‘Right of the Month’ is:

Article 14: Freedom of thought, conscience and religion

During this month, many celebrate World Religion Day on the 16th January. This is a day to recognise, respect and accept the hundreds of differing faiths across the globe.

We are so lucky to have a common faith that binds us together at St Joseph’s. However, we recognise that we are a diverse global community and we welcome and celebrate our differences. This month, you could research a different religion and share it with your friends or teacher.
