January Newsletters

Dear Parents,

The first graders are doing amazing! They are working so hard in all areas across the curriculum!

The skills that were reviewed in Reading class were long o/u/e, CVCe syllables, is or are, compare/contrast, high-frequency words and comprehension questions. In Really Great Reading class the skills that were reviewed were blending syllables and spelling 2-syllables with closed syllables. The Heart Words were them, her, would, make and like.

I would like for the first graders to choose a main idea and write supporting details about their main idea when writing their stories for homework on Tuesday night. The students need to use at least 3 different spelling words in their stories.

Please have your children read “From Cows to You” and “A Food Chart” this weekend to prepare for Reading class.

Please have your children bring 6 or 7 books each week! It is amazing how your children are reading on a daily basis in class.

I would like for the students to bring an event that happened on the day they were born for “Share and Tell” tomorrow.

The first graders need to bring their We Make a Difference book on Monday. Each student will be practicing reading his or her page. Traci Snyders will be coming on February 4th and recording the students reading the book. She will be putting it on Facebook.

Thank you for your help and support. It is greatly appreciated!

Please have your children practice spelling their words to prepare for their spelling assessment tomorrow.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Go Chiefs!

Dear Parents,

The first graders are having a wonderful week! They are working hard in all areas of the curriculum.

The skills that were reviewed in Reading class were the soft c/ soft g, inflectional endings ed/ing, cause/effect, high-frequency words and comprehension questions. The skills that were reviewed in Really Great Reading were 2-syllable words with closed syllables.

The first graders will be performing experiments in February. I will assign 4 students per week. I will send home the guidelines a week before each student will present his or her experiment.

Please have your children read “Long Ago and Now” and “From Horse to Plane” this weekend so they are prepared for Reading class. I also would like the students to read their stories on Monday evenings.

I would like for each student to bring 6 or 7 books each week to read during “Drop Everything and Read”.

The first graders are excited to make their Valentine boxes for their party. The boxes are due on Tuesday, February 9th.

May you have a wonderful 4 day weekend!

Dear Parents,

Happy New Year!

The first graders and I have had a fabulous week!

The skills that were reviewed in Reading class were long I, plurals with CVCe, present tense verbs, high frequency words and comprehension questions. In Really Great Reading class the skills that were reviewed were 2-sound consonant blends. The heart words were may, now, out, no and came.

The first graders will be performing experiments in February. I will assign 4 students per week. I will send home the guidelines a week before each student will present his or her experiment.

Please have your children read “The Gingerbread Man” and “Mother Goose Rhymes” this weekend so they are prepared for Reading class. I also would like the students to read their stories on Monday evenings, also.

I would like for each student to bring 6 or 7 books each week to read during their free time in class.

Please have your children practice the Hail Mary and Glory Be. I will assess the first graders in 4 weeks. I would like for the students to write 3 sentences and use 3 of their spelling words on their homework on Monday and Tuesday evenings.

The first graders need to bring a gift that they received for Christmas for “Share and Tell” on Friday.

May you have a wonderful weekend!
