August Newsletters

August 20, 2020

Dear Parents,

Wow! It has been a great week! Your children are amazing!

The students have been reviewing the consonant sounds, fiction/non-fiction, sequencing a story and getting acquainted with the classroom expectations and the daily routine.

Please have your children bring 3 or 4 books to read on a daily weekly.

The students will be going to Mass each Friday. They will start going to Mass on Friday, August 28th.

The first graders will be copying their homework each morning by 8:00 a.m. It would be great for the students to arrive to school between 7:25—7:40, so they are not rushed to be ready for the start of their day. They will start having homework on Monday, August 24th.

I would like for your children to read “Nat and Sam” and “Rules at School” this weekend. Please practice adding double addition facts through 10 with your children (ex: 4+4 = 8). The first graders will begin having homework in math starting Monday, August 24th. They will have spelling and math homework starting on Monday, August 31st. Their first spelling assessment will be on Friday, September 4th. If your child spells all the words on the pre-spelling assessment on Monday, he or she will not have to take the spelling assessment on Friday.

I would like the students to bring something that is special to them for “Share and Tell” tomorrow.

I am truly blessed to have your children in my classroom. They bring a smile to my face each day. Thank you for entrusting your children with me.

May you have a wonderful weekend!

God Bless You,

Sue Seipel

Dear Parents, August 27, 2020

The first graders are a great class! The students have many special talents and gifts they share with each other on a daily basis. They have marvelous manners and show kindness to everyone.

The skills that were reviewed in Reading class were short a, oral vocabulary, high-frequency word (does, not, school, what), inflectional ending with s, key details, letter identification and comprehension questions. In Really Great Reading class the students reviewed consonants and short/long vowel phonemes. They learned the motions to the short/long vowel phonemes.

We will be going to Mass tomorrow. I would like for the students to be at school by 7:35. The students and I will be going over to Mass by 7:45. Thank you for your help.

Please have your children read “Go, Pip!”, and “A Surprise in the City” this weekend. Please discuss the stories with your children.

Please review the Smart Start Words for the first 3 weeks. I sent the list home with your children, today. I will be assessing the students on these words in the next couple of weeks. Please review adding doubles with your children. They will have their first math assessment on Friday, September 18th.

I would like for your children to bring 4 or 5 books each week to read in the classroom! It is very important to encourage your children to sound out words.

Please send socks with your children, if they wear shoes without socks for PE class.

The students need to bring something from God’s world for “Share and Tell” on Friday, August 28th. (tomorrow)

The first graders will have spelling and math homework starting on Monday, August 31st.

Thank you for your support. Your children are a true gift from God.

Sincerely,

Sue Seipel
