Launching Writers Notebooks

This is our first unit of the year! It is a way to get students into writing again by working on a mini writing piece and brushing off those rusty writing skills.

Each night the students have different homework assignments to help them get back into reading. These assignments are completed in their notebook (digital or on paper) or on a Google Document.

Why do we want to set up our writer's notebook?

Writers will be encouraged to use their paper writers notebook for many assignments. We are using our binder and handouts to start prepping.

Students are given visual schedules on the board to keep up to date on their time management.

Our mini-unit will last approximately 2 weeks and will be roughly based on this schedule below. Students should be utilizing Google Classroom for the most up-to-date information.

This rubric will be used to track the student's work and ensure that all work is completed.

Students are encouraged to use the Self-Revise Checklist as they review their work daily. Many of these rules are considered "Non-Negotiable Rules" for 6th grade, and students are expected to do these items regularly.
