In an effort to help ourselves as we come across unfamiliar words, the Greek and Latin Roots can help us to start decoding words without knowing fully what these words might be. I have broken this up into a few units based from 3rd grade level root words to 6th grade level root words. We will use IXL to continue to help us practice.
Students will be introduced to a list of words on Monday with a worksheet allowing them to match the definitions with the roots and come up with words that follow that root. Tuesday we review the worksheet and talk about words that follow that root. Wednesday and Thursday have IXL reviews to practice those root words. Friday is generally a test over the words. The test will have matching and some short answers.

After we finish these roots, we will continue to review them to ensure that we are familliar with the material. To attain a 3 on the report card on 3rd trimester for vocabulary for these roots, a student should show and average understanding of 86% or higher. A student that gets 95% or higher average would likely receive a 4.
A 2.5 would show an understanding of 85-78% average. A 2 would fall under 77-70%. A 1.5 would be 69-60%, and a 1 would be an average score of 59% or lower.
